high/low culture in Nassau

Hello all,
Lotsa questions listed below. I hope you can help as this is our first trip to the Bahamas.
We are a couple in our late twenties spending 5 nights at Compass Point during the first week in July. Here are a few questions:

1. Has anyone stayed at CP recently and is there a particular room/cottage we should request? Privacy, charm, and a nice shower are priorities (within CP's limits of course).

2. What should we be ready for in terms of weather and bugs? Any tips?

3. Are there any must-do excursions from where we are? We realized we were sacrificing privacy/serenity for activities and nightlife when we chose CP, but we'd love to get away for a day on one of those deserted island type adventures. Has anyone done these? Are they worth it? We're also both big architecture and history buffs.

4. Recommendations for unusual clubs or nightspots.

5. Good, romantic restaurants off the beaten path?

We have a flexible budget and we love all kinds of travel...We're the type that can have fun browsing the Prado or people-watching in Vegas. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Best,
tigerlily

Ummm...Tigerlily, I hate to tell you this, but at Compass Point, I think you'll find it's the inverse of what you think you're getting: here you have a fair amount of serenity/privacy and MUCH less on the nightlife/activites front. Located on Western New Providence, you're a good 8-12 miles to the west of all the whoopla of Cable Beach, Downtown Nassau and Paradise Island. I stayed at nearby Orange Hill Inn while there and visited Compass Point; it's much more of what one would think of as an "Out Island" experience.

If you're interested in architecture and history, I definitely recommend taking the jitney into Nassau and exploring.

np, daniel :)
quiet works, too. we were deciding between Compass Point and Pink Sands on Harbour Island. I know we'll have to take a cab for nightlife type stuff and that suits us just fine since we want to be able to leave it all behind at the end of the evening.
Thank you for the tip on the tour. Any suggestions regarding clubs or restaurants?

My family has vacationed here the last 3 yrs. We did not go back this year for lots of reasons: 9/11, change of mgmt at CP and some of their key personnel. We LOVE the place though. Last year we took Powerboat Excursion to the Exumas - interesting trip - GREAT food and drink on pristine beach. We have also enjoyed the full-day sail on Barefoot Cruise's trip to Rose Island. Nice lunch and rum punch included with great reef snorkeling and/or the beautiful beach at Rose Island.
Compass Point food is tops. There is no nightlife here but that's what we want. If we want nightlife we can get plenty of that here at home.
Let me know how you find things at Compass Point. Our favorite accomodation is the "Twisted Tree". It is the 2 bdrm unit located right at the end of the pier.
Have a great trip.

rich, thank you for the tips. both of the outings you mentioned sound wonderful. it doesn't make sense for us to stay in the twisted tree as we are just a couple, but it certainly does sound nice.
thanks again,
tigerlily
