Help with July honeymoon
 

SInce my question did not work - <BR> <BR>We were thinking of St. Bart's for our honeymoon but heard it might be a little "dead" in the late summer - restaurants closed. <BR> <BR>Any thoughts? <BR> <BR>Other ideas where St. Lucia or the British Virgin Islands.

Yes- late summer is the beginning of hurricane season, and many restaurants and attractions do close. <BR> <BR>You'd be safest to go to Aruba, Bonaire or Curacao, which are out of the "hurricane belt."

I thought hurricane season was not really an issue until Sept. and on?

When we went to Antigua in July in '98, some things (mostly boat/nautical-related stuff at English harbour) were already starting to close because of hurricane season. I remember that at Betty's Hope plantation, our tour guide explained that the sails had been taken off the windmill because of the season. <BR> <BR>Hurricane season begins in late July, and goes through November. True, most of the violent storms tend to be at the middle to end of the season, but there is always the first hurricane of the year!

I heard Aruba is very windy. I am not really excited about that.

November is the END of hurricane season. A look at the number of hurricanes in November, however, shows that your chances of encountering one in November are slim, yet you still get the attractive rates at most locations. The BVI doesn't close down. We've been their in most seasons and one is like the other. We prefer low or no crowds which enable you to have a nice beach to yourself and no tourists cluttering the viewfinder. BVI is very laid back, so if you want nightlife, casinos, etc. you'd be better off on USVI.

I spent my late August honeymoon at the Four Seasons in Nevis. Except for sporadic showers, the weather was beautiful.
