I am trying to choose between 3 places to stay while in Bequia the first week of Nov. Kingsville Apts, Village Apts. and Gingerbread Hotel. Kingsville is a short distance from Lower Bay and Village Apts. are said to be in walking distance to Port Elizabeth. Gingerbread is right in Port Elizabeth. What would be the best? Closer to Lower Bay or town? And does anyone know how "close" Village Apts. are to Port Elizabeth?

Hi, We stayed at the Gingerbread House in an upper unit with a nice view. You will hear music at night along with a rooster wake up early AM. We were in a unit with a small kitchen which came in handy. I would definitely stay there again. There should be a trip report if you click on my name. I tried to get into the Kingsville Apt., but it was full. Good luck, Owa

I stayed at the Gingerbread and would definitely NOT stay there again. The mosquitoes were intense; and we sprayed, used the nets, mosquito coils, etc. No screens on windows and lack of breeze in this location makes mosquitoes a problem in all the lodgings along the water here along Belmont. Then the noise of the jump ups, dogs and roosters had us seeking other lodging after two nights. We couldn't sleep! So, if you end up here bring lots of insect repellant and ear plugs.

We loved Bequia, though, and ended up returning the following year but staying in a villa on the hill above Spring bay. Much quieter and the breeze kept the mosquitoes away. Enjoy Bequia!

Hi, Check a recent trip report by ejcrowe. They had the same experience with mosquitoes at lodging near the Gingerbread house. We obviously lucked out when we were there--no problem. Owa

November is still rainy season. During rainy season you will have major mozzie issues wherever you stay except perhaps way up on Spring or Mount Pleasant (and nothing wrong with those locations, either). Mozzies are at their lowest ebb from March to the end of May.

You will also have rooster, dog, jump up and music problems anywhere anytime except perhaps Spring (there, you will get cows!). I always recommend earplugs.

Where you stay depends on what you want to do. If you are beach people, stay in Lower Bay. Kingsville is right across the road from the beach.

If you like the buzz of yachtie and village life, stay at Gingerbread.

Village apartments are about 5 minutes further away from Port Elizabeth than Gingerbread...just a pleasant stroll along the waterfront Belmont Walkway. However Village Apts is not right on the water and it lacks the Gingerbread amenities that promote socializing (e.g. waterfront coffeeshop, restaurant, entertainment etc). That said, it is a very good place to stay and has lots of regulars.

We stayed at the Plantation House in Feb., 2005 and loved it. It is walking distance to town, a beautiful harbor view, A/C, quiet, etc.

If I recall correctly, Plantation House will not be open in November. It is, however, a great place to stay.
