Took advantage of a discounted flight to DR. What's the best way to get to my hotel in Puerto Plata, Coral Marien Resort, from the Santo Domingo airport. Fly, drive, bus? How long would this take? Would a bus be a scenic tour of the country?

Has anyone stayed at or seen this new resort? It has gotten some excellent reviews and write-ups but would love some input from Fodorites. Are the beaches nice in Puerto Plata.

Your best bet would be to fly to Puerta Plata...it is much too far to drive.

check American Airlines , I know they DO fly from Santo Domingo to Puerto Plata ,I doubt it if you can get a non stop flight though.It would be a pain in the neck if you have to go through San Juan.Why don't you stay in Santo Domingo , plenty of things to do +see right there.

From what I have been reading the Coral is the new hot spot in Puerto Plata....Santo Domingo as swinging as it is doesn't have any beaches and frankly to the average tourist..they wouldn't/couldn't be happy with this city...frankly I would love to go back to the Bahia, Juan Carlos and the Mercado Modelia..maybe next year..
