help! stuck between 2 islands?

after weeks of visiting this very informative website i have narrowed down my late september honeymoon spot down to two, bermuda and little dix bay. looking for a somewhat laid back island with good food and drink w/ beautiful beaches/water for swimming. i was thinking:
1. bermuda- 4 nights at cambridge beaches and 5 nights at the reefs.
2. little dix bay 9 nights

somewhat limited to due to my time of travel (hurricane season). i'm on the fence and kinda leaning towards bermuda, any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Hi frankenfish. What great choices! I can't help you with Little Dix - you may want to check out the BVI forum on traveltalkonline.com. It's an active forum. Bermuda, however, is my favorite island. I've been twice and am hoping to return next year. We've always stayed at The Reefs and had a wonderful time. Cambridge Beaches is also beautiful, but a little more formal than The Reefs. The Reefs also has a great honeymoon package that you should check out. Just a few hints about the Reefs - go for a junior suite or the longtail suite, these are the best rooms with the nicest views. I'm not so crazy about the standard or premier lanais as they are a bit cramped. Don't miss dinner on the beach at Coconuts (you'll need to reserve ahead of time). The best thing about this resort is that it's now all smart casual. No jacket or tie required which makes it more relaxed. If I can answer any questions about Bermuda let me know. You may also want to check out the Bermuda Shorts forum. Congratulations!

thanks alot bosco, very helpful! looks to me like the longtail suite may be preferable to a junior suite for me? we don't need an extra room just a spacious bedroom/bath with a nice patio overlooking the water. you suggest one over the other? also is it strictly all inclusive? kinda wanted to check out the restaurants on the island. thanks again!

sorry, correction, i meant i like the looks of a junior suite over a longtail.

Have you considered Pompano in Bermuda? If you want exceptionally hospitable and friendly service, you really can't beat them. It's very casual, no jackets required - just a collared shirt (and the guys don't have to wear shoes with Bermuda socks if wearing shorts). They just don't want to see jeans and t-shirts. Cambridge is in a very nice spot, but very stuffy. The Reefs is very picturesque and is tops with Pompano for reviews. At Pompano, the rooms are very nice and recently renovated and dinners are excellent - 5 courses. If water is a big issue with you, you can't beat Pompano. It is on a huge, calm bay (crystal-clear and waist deep) and actually feels like you are in an enormous pool. The beach is small but the water makes up for it. They also have kayaks and paddleboats and the water there is perfect for this. The resort is quite a ways in from the main road, so it is very tranquil and you feel like you're in another world. It's also a short walk from a ferry stop, so it's nice to take the ferry around to do sightseeing, shopping, etc. (and if you don't feel like walking, the owners at the resort will gladly drive you back and forth to the ferry stop). I have never heard anybody that has gone to Pompano that isn't dying to go back (see the reviews at tripadvisor.com) I'm going in a week and can't wait. We honeymooned in Bermuda and have been 6 times. Congratulations!

Hi frankenfish. Sorry not to get back to you sooner. Personally, I prefer the Longtail Suite, but there's only one and rather expensive. My husband I and booked the Atlantic Junior Suite last time and loved it and would probably book this again if given the choice. The Atlantic suites are on the first level (actually second floor) and the Horizon Junior Suites are on the top floor. It doesn't have a separate room, but then again, you don't really need it and the view is oceanfront. Have fun whatever you decide.

thanks bosco, i ended up going with the pointe suite. it was the most expensive but what the hey, i've never been to bermuda before and wanted to do it up right. it is suppose to be located way out on the tip of the complex w/ a great ocean view.

I've heard the point suites are fabulous! You won't be disappointed. I believe they also have an indoor jacuzzi on the balcony - something none of the other rooms have. Just a hint - have your travel agent (or whoever is doing the booking) make reservations a few weeks in advance at Coconuts and Ocean Echo. They book up fast. Be sure and post a trip report when you return. Would love to hear how you enjoyed Bermuda. Happy honeymoon!

To Bosco

I realize this may be an *apples and oranges* question, but I enjoyed your trip report on Jumby Bay and the comparison to Curtain Bluff. Jumby is on my *wish list*.

Bermuda may be on my wish list, and the Reefs seems to receive wonderful reviews.

I would love to hear your comparison (if posssible ;-) ) between Jumby Bay and The Reefs. I am a single traveler :-) !

Thanks !

Marion
