HELP! Need info. on best nightlife & beaches in Antigua.
We're planning on visiting Antigua in December. Where is the best nightlife, beaches? (We like it a little quiet at times and a little lively at other times). This information will also help us choose a hotel (not Sandals, though). Thanks very much.

Antigua is not really known for its night life. It is more of a "kick back and relax" island.
That being said, Shirley Heights on Sundays and Thursdays is the best party on the island. They have steel drum and reggae bands, plus a sunset BBQ.it is a blast! The whole island shows up!
Besides Shirley Heights, I have heard that the Ribbit nightclub was good, but we did not go there.
Antigua DOES have some wonderful beaches, 365 of them! Everyone has their own favorite one. Our was Half Moon Bay, which was stunningly beautiful. We stayed on Dickinson Bay, which was the most popular resort beach. It was a little loud, but not bad.
You might look and ask on www.geographia.com/antigua-barbuda, which is the offical Antigua & Barbuda site. They have a newsgroup there.

Ok, here is the lowdown regarding Antigua's beaches - (I just got back
in June). After touring the island 7 days in a rental car I've seen, walked, swam & snorkeled on many of the popular beaches.
Many locals brag about Half Moon Bay and Darkwood. These are nice beaches, but in my opinion, NOT the nicest! I've been to many islands and have seen many "top" beaches (ie. Negril, Shoal Bay, Trunk Bay, Meagens Bay, Barbuda, Grand Cayman, Aruba, etc).
Darkwood - is a nice calm beach, but watch out for your 1st step - there's a BIG dip. It's right off the road with a couple of swaying palm trees.
Halfmoon Bay - is overrated and a long car ride. Unless you like BIG waves & winds off the Atlantic, then swimming is out. The sand has dried seaweeds and twigs. It is a very pretty 'C' shaped bay, very natural... however, it is a long car ride, if time is limited, don't bother.
Here my favorites on Antigua:
Best Secluded/Quiet Beaches
1. Ffryers Beach - This 'paradise' with a great mtn backdrop including a ruined sugar mill and several tree trunks embeded in the sand. The water is very similar to Dickenson Bay. It's near Jolly Harbour. Bring your camera!
2. Carlisle Bay -very pretty, calm w/palm trees. Near Fig Tree Drive.
3. Hawksbill Beach - Has 4 beaches, beige sand, lovely rock formation which resembles - you've guessed it -a hawk's head, camera.
Best "Active" Beaches with watersports:
1. Dickenson Bay -long white sand, calm, clear warm water, shallow slope for kids, objectively I thought this is the finest beach on the island to swim, however locals would NEVER acknowledge this.
2. Jolly Harbour - lovely mountain backdrop reminded me of Hawaii, water color is fantastic when sunny, white sand, calm.
3. Turner's Beach at Johnson's Point (climb up to the peak on left - very romantic)

2 great restaurants:
In town: Papa Zouks. Inexpensive, very local, cabs can't find it. Great fresh fish, boullabaise. Good atmosphere.
In English Harbour. Upscale HQ in stunning location the verandah of the old Officer's Quarter's (Nelson's!) Very good food with Asian twist from Auzzie chef. BIG wine list. Lovely staff.
