help me find my Caribbean paradise
I am interested in a luxury resort in the Caribbean. I enjoy snorkeling, wildlife fine wood and wine.

I assume you mean "fine food and wine".
In addition to Caneel Bay look at the following: Little Dix Bay, Virgin Gorda Peter Island, BVI's Cap Jaluca, Cusinart or Malliouhana on Anguilla Iles d'France, St. Barth Four Seasons, Nevis Anse Chastenet or Ladera, St. Lucia Four Seasons and the resorts on St. Lucia have only limited snorkeling but otherwise have access to lots of rainforests and interesting wildlife. The resorts on Anguilla will not give you too much wildlife (similar to what you found at Amanyara) but you'll find 80+ great restaurants and 35 beautiful beaches. |

I second the Ile de France, also the Eden Rock, Toiny and Carl Gustav on St Barts.
Over 80 restaurants, including some of the best in the Americas. Most of the best French wines there are. the best snorkelling requires a short trip to one of the little islands nearby. Iguanas, tortoises, humming birds, pelicans, cranes and lizards a gogo. |
If the snorkeling doesn't have to be wonderful, I second the FS at Nevis. It's more of what the Caribbean used to be like and we think it looks a lot like Kauai. It was a real pleasure to stay there. You can see the website at www.fourseasons.com. Many people go there as a retreat. The rooms have very nice and have a walk in closet. Dining options on the island are plentiful, but some of our favorites were the plantation guesthouses. I had heard before visiting that many discriminating people that had traveled all over the world upon visitng Nevis had said they had finally found the place they had been looking for. The residents of Nevis are wonderful!

But you should not expecy sborkelonh based on my 2 trips to Nevis. actually the snorkeling ariund St. Kitts is better. Compared to Barbados I would give Barbados a 4 out if 10 (being the highest) and Nevis a 2. I wiykd say some of the outcroppings by mitir boat would get a 5 ub ny book, But, absent snorkeling FS-Nevis is lovely. Caneel's food us fair to good and Little Dix has better food and both have first class snorkeling but both have "kids camps" What about Peter Island or Biras Creek?

blamona is right. We visited Cayo 3 years back when on a Moorings charter. It is lovely and lunch was excellent. But, in season it can run $1000+/day for 2 persons.Also air fare to Belize City in season, was ~$700+ when we went their by plane in 2002 or 2003.

depending on your budget. and if you are resort oriented (not villa rental...) caneel bay. just got back from st. john on sat. Honeymoon beach WOW! how beautiful and all the beaches i went to (a different one everyday with rental car) were great. best snorkelling was honeymoon and hawksnest. i only went to easier access beaches. cinnamon was too rough due to off shore conditions but was also beautiful. i stayed in a villa near reef bay, it was wonderful (second wind) the road is almost 100% paved in that area now. however limited night life
