HELP! May 2004 Honeymoon in St. Barth's!

Less than six months to go.... I am attempting to plan a honeymoon in St. Bart's for mid to late May and would love some help! First of all, I am 90% sure that St. Bart's will be the right island, but please let me know if you think otherwise.

My Fiancé and I are looking for a location that offers intimate/private accommodations, but not necessarily remote or out in the middle of nowhere. I would love a private pool also! We LOVE to eat out at great restaurants and enjoy walking off a good meal through quiet market streets, people watching. Not into "party/nightlife" or hot-pink and florescent Caribbean colors all over the place. Want to get some pampering with messages, etc, but does not have to be on site. Enjoy activities such as snorkeling, deep-sea fishing, sailing, boating, as well as relaxing beach time. I also enjoy cooking, but only plan on doing this for a few meals (if in accommodations with kitchenette).

As for specific locations, I am initially attracted to Gustavia. I grew up on the water and love the atmosphere of the boat harbor. I flew my Fiancé to France for Valentine's Day a couple of years ago and we fell in love with Monaco and Cannes, and would love to find that same atmosphere. View of sunrise and sunsets from private veranda is a big plus!

And finally the ultimate question... villa or "hotel?" The Hotel Carl Gustof seems to be the only "hotel" that is in the Gustavia area. Any recommendations on private villas?

Price is a consideration, obviously, but we do have the advantage of going in the off-season. Any and all help is much appreciated. Thank you in advance!!

As I was reading your note the Hotel Carl Gustaf immediately came to mind. It fits all your criteria.

Sounds like you're going to the right place. We just returned from SB(about 3 trips a year) it's much more like the S. of France than the Caribbean. Gustavia is pretty, we dined at the Gustav a few nights ago, but we much prefer other parts of this pretty island like Flamands (the village and beach there are VERY beautiful) or St. Jean. Also on SB 1/2 of the Guest rooms (there are no large hotels) are in private villas. There are several agencies that rent villas like Wimco and St.Barth Properties. We rent from a private owner at a reasonable price, their site: www.stbartsvilla.com
Have a great honeymoon!
