Help!! June honeymoon in St. John

Hi, my fiance and I are planning our honeymoon for June to St. John. Neither one of us have been to the caribbean before and are completely clueless. We definitely want the beach, nightlife, good restaurants, snorkling. Any suggestions....

1. Should we stay at Caneel Bay or a villa? If a villa what would you recommend?

2. Where are some good restaurants to eat at?

3. What are must see things to do??

4. Where to stay at St. Thomas for 1 to 2 nights?

5. Is June a nice time to go or is the humidity bad, along with hurricanes?

Thank you so much in advance for all your help. Any feed back would be helpful in planning our romantic honeymoon!! I guess the main thing we need to know right away is where is a luxury place to stay??

I love Caneel and will be returning for my sixth trip. The seven private powder white sand beaches are incredible with calm, clear multi shades of blue water. Since rooms are spread out within its beautiful expansive grounds the resort seems very uncrowded making for a beautiful romantic setting. Good snorkeling can be enjoyed without ever leaving the resort. I have been there in late May, and the weather was delightful. With the gentle tropical breezes, it did not seem hot or humid. Fine or casual dining can be enjoyed there. Cruz Bay is just a few miles away for some night life, and Caneel has live nightly Caribbean music and dance floor close to the bar/restaurant area. I have also enjoyed dining at Zozo's and Lome Inn.

An outstanding 4 BVI island trip can be taken from Caneel. You may also enjoy snorkeling at the underwater nature trail at Trunk Bay. I have learned from my new book, "St. John Beach Guide", that there is an excellent snorkeling at the reef between Caneel's Honeymoon Beach, and adjoining Solomon Beach. There are hiking trail through and around Caneel as well as The National Park.

In St. Thomas, I prefer Marriott Morningstar. I like it even more than the Ritz, which is also lovely. If you stay there or any other St. Thomas hotel, Caneel will arrange to have a taxi pick you up and take you to their private boat transport, It is all included in their transportation package which is well worth the price.

Hope this helps.

There are many wonderful villas on St. John. If don't need to be "pampered" at a resort, you can't beat the privacy that a villa offers.
Restaurants: Chateau Bordeaux, Paradiso, Zozo's for fine dining, and Skinny's, Joe's barbeque, Cafe Roma, Banana Deck for casual.
Take the Reef Bay trail hike that the park offers. Go to Annaberg ruins - snorkel, snorkel, snorkel.
Weather on St. John stays pretty constant throughout the year. Sept is the most vulnerable for hurricanes, but anytime after late July thru early Nov can have a possible hurricane. I can give you alot more info... contact me personally.

I also agree with renting a villa instead of Caneel on St. John. Caneel is very lovely but we were so glad we rented a villa. It's so much more roomier, (most villas) are up on a hill, so the sunsets are spectacular. It's just the most romantic setting. Most also come with pool/spas. Make sure if you decide to rent a villa to ask if the road is paved to the villa and the privacy of the villa. It's worth checking into. We also preferred staying on the nortshore side closer to get to the main town of Cruz Bay. The other side is more rural called Coral Bay. Many people love that side but we found it more arid and the drive at night can be very very hazadous.

You need a car anyway because you will want to drive around the island to visit all the spectacular beaches.

St. John is perfect for a honeymoon. We also were married there and rented a 4 bedroom villa for the guests who were there for part of the time.

Here's the villa agency we used:
www.vacationvistas.com. Splendore villa on that website is supposed to be gorgeous. We stayed at a larger one (Argonauta)fantastic villa, but since hearing rave reviews about Splendore, I would stay there next time since it would only be the 2 of us.

There is a great website where I got all my info re: St. John

USVI on-line. The forum on there is great.

If you want to be right on the beach, stay at Caneel instead of a villa. There are very few if any villas on a beach in St. John (they're in the mountains). Honeymoons call for pampering and you WILL be pampered at Caneel Bay. They had a special lounge at the St. Thomas airport, took us to the ferry dock in Charlotte Amalie to catch their own ferry straight to the resort, where we were met with cool hand towels and driven to our room in a golf cart. We never had to deal with our bags after we claimed them in St. Thomas.

You can get a villa the next time you go to St. John (trust me, there will be a next time).

Spend a day or two exploring with a jeep, get to town for dinner, take a boat trip to Jost and spend some time at the Soggy Dollar. We ate at the Fish Trap one night, very good. Others rave about Asolare and there is a neat French restaurant on the mountaintop right in the middle of the island. Don't remember the name. Nightlife: we went to see a band at Woody's. June shouldn't be too bad humidity-wise, bring some bug spray, I don't think hurricanes should be an issue in June either. Congratulations!

Congrats on the marriage! My wife and I are also going to St. John in June. Our first time to the Caribbean too. We are staying at Caneel. Did you decide on Caneel or a villa? When in June will you be there? We'll be there May 29th - June 3rd. Maybe we'll see you there!
