I stayed at Cap and visited Cuisinart. While both are great resorts, I prefer the Malliouhana. I have traveled all over the world and it is one of my favourite hotels. Anguilla is quiet, secluded, has beautiful beaches, hotels, and great food. I don't think I have ever felt so relaxed as I have in Anguilla.

Give yourself an anniversary present. We've been happily married for 42 years. Stay at Cap ( been to St. Martin , St Barts & Anguilla many times over the past 20 years.) We found Anguilla 14 years ago and loved the beaches ,but waited for Anguilla to get good restaurants. Now that they have them we will never return to the other islands. Stayed at Cap the first year they opened & again a few years later. Would stay there all the time if we could afford it. Cap is the most memorable place for a special romantic occasion.
Get a room with the tub for 2!!! Forget the TV. It will make great memories for the next 10 years.
Enjoy!!

Thanks Penny & Reenie for all the info & restaurant recommendations, just what I was looking for. I appreciate everyone's time in responding. We'll be expecting your input Karen when you return!
The airfare from S. Calif. is a killer though! Hoping to find some kind of package to ease the airfare. But I think my mind is made up. Andrea, have you decided? Happy travels!

Find a t/a who deals with "Classic Caribbean" vacations since they are the only who who packages Cap with air. When getting prices, their quote was a good one compared to the rack rate most quote (including their "specials") but since we use ff miles, it was more cost effective to book elsewhere. I agree that Malli is a lovely spot too and I was impressed with the junior suites there with great views but not directly ON a beach just footsteps from the room ... or many more footsteps than at Cap!

Just a thought:

www.luxurylink.com offers high-end properties at auction. They are offering Cap Juluca right now for an opening bid of $1725, for five nights, beachfront luxury room, including tax & gratuity. They claim the retail for this is over $4400. You can take the trip anytime til November 2002, with the typical holiday blackout dates.

What does anybody think?

Karen, have you ever bid on a luxury link property?

I have used luxurylink & some of my friends with good luck. But you have to know prices & sometimes people in their enthusiam bid them up over what you can book for! The $4400 retail is for high season so if you were planning on going at that time it may be a good deal, but if you were planning on going in May (as we are) then the retail is $2300 & people usually bid it up over that price. And it is for a luxury room & dependent on openings. Not to say you can't get a good deal, we got an amazing deal on the "best shot auctions" that people tend to bid lower on for Hotel Costa Careyes in Mexico last year. So just research a little first to know if you are getting the best deal.

Hello all,

Thank you so much for your input...I have almost definately made up my mind on Cap for 7 nights..but..from some posts made recently...will we be bored for this long on Anguilla? Should we divide our time between St Barths. Just befor I book are there any other insights. Would St barths be a better iland for this length of time. we usually like to stay put when we go on vacation and not pack and unpack...we just did that in Europe this summer.

Thank you!!!!

Well, if you really INSIST on Cap, I would stay 3 nights there and 4 nights on St. Barts. Since you just returned from Europe I think you will appreciate the French atmosphere on St. Barts. Some people have actually stayed for two weeks on Anguilla! That is UNIMAGINABLE, in my opinion!!!

Andre I hope you will not get bored. Time in Europe is always full of lots and lots of things to do and in camparison, a caribbean vacation is pure relaxation. If you love beaches, little beach bars, staying on 1 beach or visiting a few, spa service, fine food, low key entertainment and lovey people then you will be fine. You could take a day trip to busy Marigot to shop etc., just a short 20 minute ferry ride away.
I think 3 nights is too short, but it is fun to split time. We sometimes go to CJ and then go on to Antiqua for a short stay. Have never tried St. Barts and it is suppose to be lovely. One of these days!

Been to Cap Juluca and it is the most heavenly beautiful place in the world. Besides a day trip to St Martin you may also take a trip to Saba or Nevis. Seven days is never too long in CJ. You must love to just relax and enjoy the most beautiful beach ever. No TV's although you may rent a vcr for a movie. And yes you can hear the waves from your room. For Peggy I noticed you are going/or have been to Zihua and staying at Villa del Sol, I am going to Casa Que Canta and was wondering why you chose Villa del Sol over it? The comparison of the two were like Cap or Cuisinart. Anyway Cap Juluca is a no - brainer. Causual, nice people, great food, the best beaches on the world!!

Nicole,
I could be blissfully happy at either Casa or Del Sol. Main reason was to be right on the beach. I could lay by the pool at Casa but my husband would be dragging me up & down that steep hill all day long...he needs to "do" more than me. VDS was more active, yet the suites private. CDC was very quiet, we did visit. Don't think you can go wrong with either!

Thanks for all your help/
It is so funny because I was too also
considering Casa que canta or Villa del
sol before I made the leap to Anguilla because I could get free airfare. Oh what to do...I could also go for a margarita... I am all over the map...I will be at my 20th anniversary if I dont make up my mind soon....

Andrea,
I think we are set on Cap if I can get the room & timeframe I want. Free airfare! I'd go for it, that is the only thing that bugs me because it is $1200.00 pp from LAX & it is a 14 hour journey from start to finish! Mexico & even the South Pacific is much cheaper & closer for us. But it's time to go somewhere else. Just pick a spot & know you can start planning for the next one! The west coast of Mexico has a bigger time frame for the prospect of good weather than the Caribbean. We usually go to the South Pacific or Caribb in the spring & Mexico in the fall. Thanksgiving & Christmas is tied up with family. At least we all have the good fortune to be able to go! But then...I could always change my mind at the last minute if something else catchs my eye! Let us know what you decide.

Hi Peggy:

Wow you do have a long trip to the caribbean from LAX. We fly out of JFK
or Philadelphia...so Anguilla is a little closer than parts of Mexico. We love Hawaii and even Australia but that is more than a weeks trip. Anyway, I will let you know what we decide. Thank you for all of your help. January's weather in Anguilla is ok isnt it?
Where do you go in the South Seas we were thinking of a South Seas cruise on a ship called PAul Gaugin with Radisson Seven Seas next summer....Talk to you soon...let me know what the weather usually is in the BWIndies January if you know....Thanks!!!

Anguilla AIN'T no Hawaii by a long shot! Good luck -- and be sure to post a trip report upon your return!

Andrea,
Probably other people can tell you better about the waether in January since we have always gone in April or May & have always (knock on wood) had great weather, lower proces but no threats from hurricanes. We are not into cruises but the Radisson would be a good one to take to get an overrall impression of Tahiti & her islands. We had friends, who love to cruise, take it & loved it.
Kat, who posts here, should be back from Cap this week so hopefully she will post about her trip & give us a current update!

How were the beaches in Mexico? From whay I understand not as nice as the carribbean. What time of year did you go? We go in 2 1/2 weeks to Casa.
Been to Hawaii as well, loved it but beaches are 10x better in Anguilla! The weather is beautiful in January.

To me the beaches themselves are not the total reason we visit Mexico. Pacific beaches do not have reefs so do not have the turquiose water of the Caribb, just a physical fact. But I have spent plenty of time in a hammock or kayaking or deep sea fishing in Mexico & loved it. The people, the food, the architecture, the music, the hidden out of the way places makes it an interesting alternative. Las Ropas & Las Gatos in Zih are great beaches for swimming. Have fun, discover lots of new things!
