Help-Having a serious indecisive moment!
 

I'm really struggling to choose an island destination for a 5-7 day trip next month. My husband and I haven't had a "real" vacation in a while and we want something relaxing, great food, wonderful hotel/resort with great service and relative peace (not a huge hotel with a lot of children). We are not divers so someplace with a great beach, but with other activities outside of scuba would be a plus.
Stats:
-mid 30s early 40s
-since it has been a while we can spend a few $$
-romantic
-foodies
-my husband is a history buff
-it would be nice to day trip to another island
We have collectively done the USVI, BVI, St. Martin, Grand Bahama, Jamaica, Cancun, Dominican Republic.
I have my sights on Anguilla, Turks & Caicos or an out lying Bahama island, but I'm not sure any of them really "fit"

You have your eye on Anguilla for a very good reason. It fits all your requirements. The beaches are magnificant...truely take your breath away.
If your a foodie you will love it there. I believe there is some 80 restaurants to choose from. Some of the best food you will ever have.
It is also easy to take a day trip to ST. Maarten or St. Barths. My suggestion is to check the Cuisinart resort. It is spectacular and very romantic.

I agree that Anguilla sounds good (though I have never been myself). I have been to St. Kitts/Nevis, and I ecourage you to check out that option.

I'd suggest Nevis/St. Kitts. Especially for a "history buff" ;-)

Take a look at Nisbet Plantation or Montpelier Inn on Nevis.

I'm not familiar with resorts on St. Kitts....but there are a few experts here who will offer help.

Anguilla is looking good to me as well, any hotel recommendations? Is it really as expensive to eat on the island as people say or is it on par with say NYC and DC Metro nice dinning?

I'll throw Grenada in the mix. Fascinating history, beautiful beaches, interesting capital city.

Here's another vote for Anguilla. we went in march for my DH's 40th and it was wonderful. we are late 30s/early 40s too. Depending on when you want to go, i.e. in the next month or 2, you can get great deals on hotels. I would hands down suggest Cap Juluca- very romantic and not over-ridden by children. People will say Cuisinart is not over-ridden by children either, but when we visited there, it was. Cap just has a really romantic, other wordly feel to it.

Yes, the food is very expensive- perhaps on par with some of the more expensive restaurants in the U.S, but if you are also into wines, expect those to be dramatically more expensive than the U.S.

Have a great time planning and anticipating and then a great time enjoying your stay- wherever you choose!

I have never been to Anguilla but I have been to T & C. Not much to do there but sunbathe. T & C's plusses are easy to travel to and relatively new. Minuses are expensive(everything imported)and not very pretty (bare rock) for a caribbean island.

The food on Anguilla can be expensive (but delicious), but there are also moderately priced and even cheap places to eat.

Anguilla was my first thought. I have not been, but it is everything you described that I have read about it!!
