Help! Going to San Juan, PR in 5 days!!

I'm traveling with 8 girlfriends to San Juan next week for 6 days. I need tips on good restaurants (eating safely but cheaply),nightlife, and beaches. We're staying at the Marriott Stellaris Resort. I also am afraid of the weather right now. I heard the rainforest has been closed for 2 weeks, and I'm not sure why. The weather reports show thunderstorms in the forcast every day. Does this mean my trip is going to get washed out? Help!! (not that I can't go at this point)

In terms of restaurants, a lot of great restaurants in Old San Juan. Great with a bunch of friends would be: Dragonfly (Latin-Asian cuisine) and The Parrot Club (great place for singles). Both are across from each other near Plaza de Colon. For nightlife, also in Old San Juan is Rumba's. Great tourist place for singles, especially if you like to dance to salsa. A really nice nightclub is Babylon but beware, they have very strict dress code. Babylon is located at the Wydham El San Juan Hotel in Isla Verde, San Juan. Our favorite beach is Ocean Park which is located in between Condado and Isla Verde. Great place for singles.

When we go to San Juan and it rains, we usually stay out in the jacuzzi and it's fun to be warm and get drenched by the rain at the same time. Not much to do really when it's raining, other than the Casino, the mall, or go to the Caves. Usually, when it's raining in one place, it doesn't rain on other parts of Puerto Rico. Better yet, take a trip to Culebra or Vieques and those two offshore islands are drier than mainland PR.

8 friends on vacation?! I'm jealous! Hope you'll have fun!

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the weather forecast. It almost always indicates chance of showers or thunderstorms for San Juan. Unlikely that it will be a complete washout. Usually just a passing shower. I've been to PR many times and can count on one hand the number of days that were total washouts.

The Marriott is in Condado, which has a good number of restaurants. I can't really help that much on places to eat for cheap except to recommend Metropol. Serves PR/Cuban food in casual setting. Great prices. Good food. I always go the one in Isla Verde but I'm pretty sure that there is also one in Condado.

As far as nightlife, definitely take a taxi to the (Wyndham) El San Juan Resort one night. Make it a Friday or Saturday to get the full flavor of it. It has a beautiful lobby bar (along with a cigar bar and sushi bar), live music, a nighclub, and casino. Very crowded on the weekend. Pretty dressy - no shorts at the lobby bar at night and no jeans at the nightclub. It's a great spot for people watching.

The Marriott also has a very nice lobby bar with live music. It's not as grand as the El San Juan's but still nice. As far as other clubs, Lazer's is in Old San Juan but I haven't been in several years so cant vouch for it. Ask your concierge for any hot spots as San Juan has good nightlife.

I saw that you went on a girls trip to Marriott Stellaris Resort - I'm planning the same thing in January. How was it?? Is the Marriott a good place to stay? We just want good beach and/or pool, and decent nightlife - could care less about the decor, etc.
