You don't say what age your group is but if you have 3 couples splitting the cost I would suggest you look at the Abacos. Believe me, if what you have seen of the Bahamas is Nassau and Freeport then you have not been to the Bahamas- at least not the part of them that I love. The out islands are wonderful! If you find a house (look in Hopetown on Elbow Cay) or on Great Guana then split the cost of rental boat (very necessary to the fun) and a golf cart if needed -sometimes not necessary depending on the house you choose-and the cost will not be nearly what it would be for a couple travelling alone. I have done this several times and it is lots of fun. There are great homemade breads that you can buy for breakfast at your villa to save some money. We take a cooler full of frozen food- steaks, etc- and cook in some nights just for the relaxation, not to mention savings. You will have very full days of exploring and can eat lunch out in a variety of spots (Pete's in Little Harbour), Nippers on Guana, a good little place on Man-O-War (forgot the name) and places like Captain Jack's and Hopetown Harbour Lodge in Hopetown. It is fun to rent bicycles and ride all over the island and down to the Abaco Inn or SeaSpray for lunch or afternoon swim and drinks. Look into it- it is a very fun trip with 3 couples! There are lots of websites with information about the Abacos and a wide range of properties available.

P.S. Have you been to Isla Mujeres? It is very, very small so there is not a lot of adventuring to do but the beaches are nice, clear water, very safe and friendly with cheap food and drinks. If you had 3 couples together then it would be like your own party for entertainment. You don't need a car or cart if you stay close to town and it is safe to walk around. Good dive shop in town for the diving or snorkeling.
