Help choosing Jamaica hotel under $1,500Cdn ALL in?

Disclaimer: I am going to Kenya in June and therefore i have very little money left to travel for 2011. BUT I need sun badly.
I have already been to Anguilla, Antigua, St. Barths, and Dominican Republic. Would like to try something different.
Any suggestions? Preferably adults only. Please help!

Not sure what the equivalent is in US, but for $1,500 US you will be hard pressed to find an Adult's only AI for that budget. A regular AI yes. But, don't count on the food, entertainment or activity to be top notch. Unless you are talking about per person and not per couple.

Look at the RIU's in Negril or Ocho Rios. Sandals and Couples will probably be more money than you are looking for. Sunset at the Palms in Negril is worth consideration.

Canadian and USD are almost equal. Today's rate is $1.00 USD = $1.01748 Canadian.

Personally I think Negril is the "best" destination in Jamaica. There's lots of AI's on the 7-mile beach there. I have no idea their price range though (I never stay AI myself).

My niece just went to Secrets Wild Orchid...she loved it.

Probably the best though www.secretsresorts.com also good.

Best deals usually www.bookit.com/Jamaica

Does it have to be an A1? You really don't need that in Jamaica. Especially not if you go to Negril, which is one of the more affordable destinations on the island. If you go slightly off-season, you will do even better.

There are many small affordable hotels on one of the nicest beaches in the Caribbean. If you don't need much, you should be able to find something very reasonable. Check out some of the small properties in Negril on the beach and/or on the cliffs if you don't need beachfront, then post back for recommendations.

Food is very cheap in Negril, too. Lots of wonderful jerk chicken stands, and tiny restaurants on the beach/cliffs that are really good.

Thanks for your replies. I like AI because I am a wary traveler and don't care to leave the grounds at night in a country that I don't know well. I will check out Negril. EVERYTHING I read says the beaches are short and rocky. I'm used to Turks and Caicos beaches, which are spectacular!

<EVERYTHING I read says the beaches are short and rocky>

Well I don't know what or where you are reading but that is not correct.

You might want to Google and find some photos of the "7-mile" beach in Negril. It's just that... 7 miles of wide white sand with a gradual gentle slope into the clear turquoise waters. It's a fairly spectacular beach.

I don't do all inclusives, but my husband and I did air and hotels for under US$1400.00 for both of us last month from the middle of the US.

We never felt unsafe while in Negril.

Your right though, Negril/Jamaica beaches are completely inferior to Grace Bay in T & C, but that doesn't mean their beaches aren't nice, just different. Jamaica's topography will definatly make up for it.

Thanks all. found my AI (incl. flight) for under $1500 Cdn and I'm thrilled with it. Long(ish) beach, beautiful pools with jacuzzis, large rooms, lots of restos to choose from... Perfect for me and my beau.

For my second honeymoon, I will check out 7-Mile beach, promise!

KVR: I agree completely...Grace Bay is like nothing else: white sand and clear, turquoise water as warm as a bath. Magnificent.
