Have you been to Martinique in July?
 

I have the opportunity to book a fantastic deal for 1 week on Martinique (at the Sofitel), July 10-17.

I understand this is the rainy season, but what does that mean? Is it all day rain or brief and intense showers early in the morning and in the afternoon?

If you've been to Martinique or a neighboring island in July, can you tell me about your experience?

Summer is NOT the rainy season in the Caribbean. It is the hurricane season. Days are typically hot and humid throughout most of the Caribbean. But if there is a major tropical storm or hurricane, then you get a few days of intense rain and wind. I've been to the Caribbean several times in June and July and had only an occasional afternoon shower or nighttime shower. But Martinique is a large island and does have weather because landmasses attract clouds, so there can be rain because of this. Still, in the summer, showers aren't usually long ... maybe a couple of hours at the most. (But that's a generalization, not a promise.)

Just curious, where are you getting the great deal for the Sofitel?

Thanks Doug. I guess I used the term "rainy season" in its most hopeful sense.

FKCZ: I have a travel agent friend who is able to swing a great price at the hotel. Plus, I have found a very cheap charter flight--cheap, probably, because of the aforementioned hurricanes.
