Has anyone stayed at the Beaches Turks and Caicos and not liked it?

Looking for positive and negative experiences. Fill me in. Is this hotel honeymoon material? Kids do not bother me, as long as the hotel is luxurious and pampering.

Beaches is not a honeymoon destination. Kids are great (we have two teens), however, the majority of the activities are geared towards families. I would definately not use the adjectives luxurious and pampering to describe Beaches. It's a family resort. Food is okay. If you do go, I suggest you spring for the extra money and book a concierge suite. The regular rooms are adequate but not luxurious. Luxurious is the Four Seasons. Not Beaches. We found the service to be adequate, not pampering. Maybe that's because we were in the Oceanview Deluxe Room (non-concierge level). Beds were double, not even queen size! As I stated, the food was okay but I have had better in the Caribbean. They put out fancy things like crab legs and lobster tails but the quality is lacking. Also, there are quite a lot of buffets, especially at breakfast and lunch. It gets tired after a while. Forget trying to scuba dive if you are a beginner looking for lessons. The 9-19 slots book up immediately. With 1,000 guests at the resort, your chances are nil. This was the biggest complaint from the people who where there the week we were. Don't get me wrong. We did have fun by making the best of the situation. Also, we went with our kids and another family. As a couple, my husband and I have stayed at better, luxurious and pampering resorts. Check you the condo resorts in Turks and Caicos. You'll find luxury there.

Antoinette:
Thanks for your response. Can you tell me more? Our travel agent has recommended Beaches as first class accomodations. It sound like you are describing the room as standard. We can only afford the deluxe room which is the cheapest category. I was interested in this specific island because I heard the beaches are the clearest and nicest in the caribbean. Do you agree?

The TCI have wonderful beaches and water for sure! And I have not stayed at Beaches since it became beaches but was there when it was Royal Pavillion so I can't comment on the Beaches facilities and amenities. But, it seems to me, for the price you could explore some of the other options in the TCI that would cater more to a intimate "romantic" destination. Frankly, I've seen the prices some people pay and they seem pretty steep compared to other a/i's and places that are not but offer a meal plan as an option or you eat on the economy. Maybe you could explore some other options with your agent. When is your honeymoon?

Try Aruba and change travel agents. That's what we did. Beaches/Sandals pays one of the highest commissions to the agents which is why they push it. Though I have not been there yet, I've heard the Raddison Aruba has undergone an extensive renovation and is just beautiful. Aruba has a dine around program that lets you eat at different restaurants for a set price. Check it out on the Aruba.com website. Beach and water there are also beautiful.
If you truly want "ultra-luxury" check out St. Barth's. However, St. Barth's is VERY EXPENSIVE.
I have to agree that Beaches is not a luxury honeymoon resort. It is great for families but wouldn't recommend for a honeymoon. I also agree, change agents. An agent should be there to assist you and guide you not push you!

Thank you everyone! Can anyone recommend a better island with luxury hotels and the best beaches comparable to Turks and Caicos.

See my rant and rave for this resort. I have never been so disappointed in a destination in my life (and I have traveled quite a bit) Save your money and go somewhere else. Rooms were average at best, food less than average and the staff was incredibly rude. The resort is poorly managed and unkempt. This is place is definitely not luxurious and you will not feel pampered.

See Rants & Raves for all the Beaches resorts to get the picture. It is no where near first class. Food is average, as are accomodations. Go elsewhere.

stayed at beaches oct 99 .hated it , it was the worst trip we've ever had.Rooms fairly basic and small we had a 2 roomed suite for 4 0f us, very cramped. No door on the bathroom which my 14 yr. old found awful. Food plentiful, but very basic.Help and advice in booking trips was appalling, we ended up sorting out all excursions ourselves. Would never reccomend the place

Nicest beaches we've seen in the Caribbean: 1) Shoal Bay Anguilla 2. Negril Beach in Jamaica. 3) Practically every beach on Vieques, Puerto Rico
Honeymoon hotels: Inn on the Blue Horizon on Vieques, Rockhouse (and several other hotels)on Negril Cliffs, several great candidates on Negril Beach (my fav is Charela Inn)
