Has Anyone stayed at LaSamanna recently?
 

Wanted to stay for 3 nights before heading to Anguilla but tripadvisor says some terrible things. Any comment?

While my stay at La Samanna was a few years ago, it was so unpleasant that I can't help but respond. We, too, split our trip (our honeymoon) between Anguilla (Cap Juluca) and St. MArtin (La samana). I WISH we would have stayed at CJ the entire time--it was heaven. When we got to LaSamana, it was all downhill...First, there was brown/rusty water running from all the faucets. After the ferry ride over, and the August heat, we wanted to wash up, etc. So I called the front desk, and they sent someone over to "repair" it. My husband and I, not letting it ruin our arrival, unpacked and went for a dip in the pool, which is gorgeous. When we got back to the room (which can not compare to those at CJ), covered in chlorine from the pool, we ran the shower--still brown water. I called the front desk (again), and was told they couldn't help me--so I asked to speak with a manager. He finally agreed to move us to another room, so we packed up all our stuff and moved across the property to another room. Fine, except that the next day, upon returning for the beach, the front door was swinging wide open--housekeeping didn't even shut it when they left our room. When I informed the front desk, they didn't seem to care, and implied that we must have left it open. Also, had a bad experience at the beach--there was the RUDEST beach attendant. I wanted a float for the pool, but there were none left. I asked the pool attendant, he said there might be some at the beach. So, I hiked down a pretty steep flight of stairs and asked the beach attendant if I might have a float. He told me No, there weren't any available. When I walked down the beach aways, however, I noticed several floats lying in the sand. So, I grabbed one, dragged it all the way back up the beach past the beach attendant, who simply shrugged at me, then watched me as I struggled to drag it up the stairs to the pool. Pretty poor service for such and exclusive--and expensive--property. While the food was amazing at their restaurant, I would NEVER go back there.
My advice: stay 3 extra nights in Anguilla.

The bottom line is that I would recommend other resorts, and would spend my entire trip on Anguilla.

DITTO to staying in Anguilla the entire time of your trip. My husband and I also split our honeymoon between Cap Juluca and La Samanna. Cap Juluca is absolutely amazing. I don't know how La Samanna is ever considered a nice hotel. We were sooooo disappointed when we arrived, that I cried for two days. Every chance we got, we left the grounds of the hotel so that we wouldn't have to endure it. One day, we even took the ferry to St. Bart's and spent the night in another hotel. I can't tell you how horrible it was. Please, Please, PLEASE take my advice...DO NOT STAY AT LA SAMANNA.

Haven't stayed at LaSamanna but we just got back from Anguilla, and I would recommend spending your whole stay there.It's a wonderful island and the beaches are absolutely stunning. We ferried over to St Martin one day, and it was so hot and sticky - much more uncomfortable than Anguilla was - that we only stayed about an hour and a half and then took the ferry back.
