Beached Resort in Varadero isnt open yet. It is operated by the Sandals Chain and by all indications will be an excellent destination. Ask your travel agent for details - it's supposed to open April 01 1999

Just got back from Beaches Varadero.
Better check with your travel agent!
Sandals-Beaches are usually 5*.This
one is 3* at best.Because it is new
many things you expect from a Sandals
are not in place.

Having just returned from Beaches Varadero last weekend , I would concur with Terry's rating of 3* at this time. However, I would not go on a travel agent's recommendation only as most have not been there and are simply going on the Sandal's reputation. We met many people who
did exactly that. One has to remember that this is an established chain now trying to business in a completely different country which can NOT source anything from the U.S. . We met with the general manager of the resort and he is fully aware of what he has to acomplish , and he has seen improvement on a weekly basis but in his words " you can't change a people's culture overnight". He honestly thinks in six months it will
be in the range of what one expects of a Sandals/Beaches resort. The property itself was not 100% done but it will certainly be very picturesque when the vegatation fills in. As Shiela indicated, I do have a trip report done , if you would like a copy , please e-mail me. It will slowly get there but it certainly is Not a Sandals/Beaches quality property yet.
