has anyone done the submarines on Grand Cayman?
Taking our first trip to Grand Cayman week of July 20. Interested in doing the submarine excursion that goes down 100ft. Has anyone done this before? Is it worth the cost? Our kids are 7 and 14. Not sure if we should spend the $ on this or a sunset cruise. Already signed up for the stingray/snorkel trip. Any comments appreciated!

yes, it's Atlantis!! Glad to hear it was worth it. This might be a stupid question, but did you have any problems with pressure (as in your ears popping)? Our daughter is recovering from a ruptured eardrum, but I'm guessing the submarine is no worse than an airplane ride! thanks for the info...

Make sure that there has NOT been any hurracaine activity PRIOR to your excursion...
If so,the water will be totally muddy and a waste of money..that is what happend to us when we did it....
ALSO , it is SUPER narrow and very claustrophobic...
No problems with ear pressure though--You really do NOT go down that far...

The submarine holds two passengers (plus pilot). You won't have any problems with air pressure.
My husband and I did this in March, and we definitely felt it was worth the cost! The only real disappointment was the pictures we took. We have one of those automatic, self-focusing cameras, which apparently felt that the inside of the viewing window was the appropriate thing to focus on. So EVERYTHING is out of focus. Wished we had sprung for the video now.
You absolutely cannot compare a snorkel to this dive. You're going deeper than divers go. It is fantastic.

The Atlantis submarine goes down about 100 feet and holds 48 people. The sub that holds two plus pilot (the Atlantis Research Submersible) goes down a lot farther (to about 1000 feet) and is a LOT more expensive a few hundred vs. $74 or so).
I did the larger, cheaper boat and it was definitely worthwhile. If you can afford it and have the interest, I'd probably think the submersible was worthwhile as well.

thanks everyone for the info. We were considering the bigger boat vs. the small. It sounds like a great excursion. Also, thanks for the post-hurricane tip. Claudette brushed over the island several days ago, but correspondence with a few folks who live on GC indicates all is well now, including the water. Will post a report when I return! thanks all...
