HARBOR ISLAND

Has anyone besides Tweedy been to Harbor Island.I'd prefer an unbiased opinion of the place by someone else.If you dont know what I'm talkn about this Tweedy must have made 100 replies and posts reguarding Harbor Island so her credability is some what questionable to say the least.Tweedy claims this to be a favorite place.I say BULL SHIT.You obviously have some kind of financial interest in the place or you wouldn't moniter this board night and day.

Rhonda, do not be such a skeptic. There are quite a few posters who are "experts" on their islands, that have no finacial interest! Not a travel agent, or restaurant owner, or hotel owner. When I first started researching the caribbean, the guide books would not give me the info, on beach size, rooms etc. and the best way to get there. I monitor these boards too, as it is a relief from the day to day world, and a chance to "daydream" about a tropical island, and a brake from the high tech email bull!
Help Rhonda sounds more like Runaround
Sue!

I have never been to Harbor Isand, have friends who own a home there, and I really appreciate ALL the input Tweedy has shared.

My limited experience with Harbour Island was a day-trip on the fast ferry from Nassau. My wife and I went there just last week. Our day on Harbour Island was wonderful. After arriving at the marina, we headed straight for the beach. We chose to walk, and didn't really know exactly where we were going, but just sort of followed the main roads east and south. We ended up toward the south end of the pink beach. For about two hours, we were nearly completely alone - perfect weather, perfect water, perfect sand (although there was a strip of dried seaweed you had to step over). The only other people we saw was the occassional couple who strolled by. After relaxing on the beach, we walked up the beach to the Coral Sands resort and had a great lunch at its patio restaurant overlooking the beach. We spent a bit more time in the water, then headed back to catch the ferry. We didn't get a chance to see much of the town, but that was not our priority. We'd like to go back and stay a few days. Before we went, I did a lot of browsing on message boards and found Tweedy's responses very helpful.

Hi Rhonda,
I remember last year when we were planning a trip to Harbour Island and
got a lot of info from Ms. Tweedy.
She was right about the beautiful
3 mile Pink Sand beach. We stayed
at Coral Sands and loved the place.

All in all, would we go back, probably
not after going to St. John, USVI this
year.

Wow, no comparison. To us, Harbour
Island has just the beautiful beach.
Not much else to do.

St. John, USVI on the other hand. Has
even more exquisite beaches. 39
or so. Harbour Island has one beach. So much more to do St. John. So
much prettier. Very lush. Many villas to rent. It was a dream
vacation and glad we had the experience
of both Islands.

St. John, USVI definitely outshines
Harbour Island. No, I'm not a travel
agent. Just a traveler who had
never been to the islands in the Caribbean except for Hawaii and Bermuda.
St. John well exceeded all our expectations. It looks even prettier
and majectic inperson than it does
in the brochures. Go to USVI Online
and you will hoards of info.

Jane

Your inguiry was mean spirited and rude. I never start threads, but answer questions about the Bahamas and Harbour Island when they come up. I have been going there since 1986 at least one trip a year, so I now have alot of friends on island.

I also have a chorus here in NYC and we do benefit concerts for churches, schools and not for profit organizations and I took the chorus on 3 tours to Nassau and Harbour Island to raise money for churches and the Harbour Island Day Nursery. We raised over $8,000 on our last trip alone and ALL the money goes to charity. Each memember of the chorus pays their own way.

At least once a year someone like this starts attacking another poster, and this time it's me. It's really a shame, because it ruins the fun we all have here.

I think you owe my an appology.

tweedy

rhonda : i hear your schepticism but i have no interests in harbor island and i can tell you everything you've heard falls short of its beauty its people and its atmosphere of relaxation , good food and good beaches.i've been going on and off since 1983 ! the only place i would not recommend is the romora bay club it has changed owners and the new ownership did not give me a good impression at all! enjoy your trip

Tweedy, don't feel bad, I got some
blasts about an island a while ago
that I loved. I know the feeling you
have. Once you find that paradise,
you want to tell the world.

I may have been guilty of blasting
you also a long time ago and thought
you were a travel agent. I did go
to Harbour Island and the beach
and some of the resorts were on the mark.

We liked Coral Sands. My husband
hated the Pink Sands. To him
is was so unprententious and extremely
snobby. Coral Sands was next door
and it was great. We stayed in one
of the newer rooms. Our opinion of
Harbour Island is that it wasn't a beautiful paradise like some other
islands. Also, it didn't look like
Nantucket as you described. Yes,
the 3 mile beach is pretty.

I wouldn't steer people away but if
I had a preference, I would tell people
St. John, USVI first then Bermuda.
(Hawaii to long a ride if you live on
the east coast.)

It's all a matter of taste, isn't it.
456 responses by Tweedy on Harbor Island.Sounds mighty fishy to me that someone would actually moniter a travel board and plug an Island like it was a full time job without having a financial interest in it.Just enter tweedy in search box and you'll see what I mean.
