Half Moon - condition of rooms?
As previously posted, I recently had to change my reservation at the Ritz to Half Moon due to flooding at the Ritz. While the majority of reviews are positive for the resort overall, I have recently found several negative reviews for the superior rooms in the Oleander Wing at Half Moon. People are saying they are old, dirty, and in need of repair.
Has anyone experienced this? My husband and I love the Ritz because of how well the grounds are kept and how nice the rooms are. Any recommendations for a 5 star resort are appreciated! |
I stayed in the Oleander Wing a couple of months ago. It was ok - albeit a little motel like - until I went back to the room to take a shower before check out. There wasn't any water. I called the front desk. They said they'd find a room for me to shower in and call me back. I waited...and waited...and waited. Finally I went and jumped in the swimming pool. I'll never go back again.

Round Hill and Tryall are both worth considering, near MoBay and likely 5*.
The Island Outpost "chain" of small boutique hotels is worth a look too: Goldeneye, The Caves, Strawberry Hill. Jake's is not at the same level as the others but a fun, funky place...but without AC and such probably not what you're looking for. |
Do you want to stay in MoBay or would you consider traveling farther? Aside from nice rooms and well kept grounds, are there other amentities that you're looking for?

We decided it wasn't worth the risk to stay at HM so we rebooked for Round Hill. I hate cancelling and rebooking but I feel I have no choice here. RH is more expensive but looks to be a well-maintained 5 star resort. We're looking forward to our trip!
Thanks for the recommendations! |
The Round Hill Pineapple rooms were recently redecorated (this fall). It's a very nice---albeit very quiet---resort that's far removed from Montego Bay (about 20 minutes south of town). There isn't a lot of activity as most of the guests are staying in their own villas. I'd suggest you read up on MoBay restaurants and try to get out of the resort for some meals since there is only one restaurant on site, and you may get tired of it. Unless you are staying in a villa with a pool, the only pool is over by the spa, and it's a rather long hike from the rooms. The beach is small but nice, and if you like activities, Chukka Blue isn't too far away and they have a lot of good offerings, including horseback riding.
