Hacienda del Mar, PR - Has anyone been since they closed the Cerromar?
Hello, has anyone stayed at the Hacienda del Mar since they closed the adjoining Cerromar hotel? When I made my reservation for Feb, those bad guys did NOT tell me that the Cerromar was closed, I found out here... We have a 2 yr old and one on the way, and the Hacienda del Mar really works for us because of the separate bedrooms and the extensive grounds... But, we need someplace to eat, and I understand only the Asian restaurant remains open. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have not been since the closing, but I am an owner and may be able to share some info. It was my understanding that the beach bar/restaurant would remain open. In addition, there are a number of restaurant options for you at the Hyatt Dorado, which is part of the entire resort and only a 5 minute trolley ride away (they run every half hour, it's easy to go back and forth) There is a golf club restaurant and two or three others at Dorado (a casual breakfast/lunch restaurant, Su Casa a great restaurant in an old house and one other restaurant that was being redone when we were there last November so I am not sure if it is open yet. And don't feel bad about not being told in advance about the closing, we found out via letter only about one month before it happened. There is a grocery store in the nearby town, as well as several pizza/fast food options and a few restaurants. We fed our kids breakfast and lunch in the condo and went out to dinner. You might consider renting a car if you are concerned about the lack of restaurants, there are plenty of options nearby. I think you will still have a wonderful experience, and please let me know when you return about what exactly was and wasn't open at Cerramar since we may be going back to use our unit next year.

scwrite, we are stay Feb 29 - Mar 6, 2004. Any info you have from your trip this month would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Lois, the casino is at the Cerromar, I was told that the casino, the pools, the asian restaurant, the snack bar at the pools, and the golf courses would remain open... this from the reservation agent at Hyatt Vacation Clubs... since this was the same organization that failed to tell me that the Cerromar was closing when I made my reservation, I'm not sure how much stock I put in it.

TO Lois and Dimagr: I called the resort and was told the same. The Hyatt Camp is also supposed to be up and running, as it supports the Dorado resort as well. We have a six and nine year old -- so that was important to them. My husband and I have decided that one good point to the Cerromar closing is that there will be less people? A silver lining. We like to adventure out for dinner, so we rented a car. I'll try to write down child friendly restaurants.Wish me luck!

If it makes you feel better, last year when we were there most of the people were staying at Hacienda Del Mar, which is doing very well (the prices on the timeshares have gone up considerably since we bought 3 years ago) There just weren't that many folks at the Cerramar, so I really feel that all the facilities will be open because most of the business has been coming from HDM anyway and they need the cash flow until they decide next step. Camp Hyatt at night was well-utilized and the casino was pretty active, and the restaurants were pretty full. HDM is two large buildings now so there is plenty of demand for the services and we were there in November, which is not exactly high season. So, fingers crossed, and let us know.

I am totally confused. We stayed at the Cerromar a few years back and loved it. Now it is closed? Is it going to be torn down and rebuilt or was it coverted to condo's, or is it sitting vacant. Can you stay at the Hacienda del Mar for a week or less and if so, how are the grounds.
