New Zealand

We found a nice offer to travel to GUADELOUPE (from Belgian) and stay at BASSE TERRE hotel "LA SUCRERIE DU COMTE" 5 km from SAINTE ROSE - a car is included in the packet as well as breakfast.
Could anyone inform us about this hotel/ area/ beaches on that place etc
and about the cost of life (restaurants, etc)
We would like to go for 2 weeks in june, is this a good time or does it rain all the day ? Has the island(s) enough to offer to stay 2 weeks, we don't want to sit on the beach
all the day.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Friends of ours stayed at the place with three kids over Christmas and loved it. I think the hotel is located next to a former colonial house with a good restaurant.
Ste Rose is not a seaside resort but a typical village from Guadeloupe. Regarding beaches, you may have to take your car and drive for some miles.
June being the beginning of rainy season, you may encounter some thunderstorms but they should not last very long. Ste Rose is located on the "flat" northern part of Basse-Terre which is mostly a mountain area with wonderful landscapes. Mountains and the volcano in the south tend to (of course) attract clouds. So Ste Rose could escape the clouds while the southern tip of Basse-Terre will be subject to rain.
Anyway thunderstorms are local ones and you can esaily escape by driving for a few miles.
Try to go early June if possible. Guadeloupe is a nice island with various landscapes and deserves more than a week to visit. You also have to go to the nearby islands (Les Saintes and Marie-Galante).

Hi,
I think Guadeloupe is a good choice. We went for 9 days and we really didn't get around to doing everything we would have wanted to do. Basse Terre is absolutely gorgeous! We enjoyed driving and hiking in the rain forest areas alot and remember St Rose being very quaint and quiet.

Be sure to visit some of the beaches on the flat side of the island. They are the typical white sand, blue water beaches...St. Anne was our favorite.

Guadeloupe is not over run by americans like many caribbean islands but there are a lot of French. I don't remember meeting and belgian people. You should have fun but definitely will need to rent a car to see all the neat sites.

We went to Iles des Saintes for a couple of days and thought it, too, was quiant. The little town "le bourg" is fun to walk around and explore.

HAve Fun
