Grenada with a 4 year old?
Looking at a possible visit in late April/early May.
We like high end,low key, beautiful luxury beach accomodations that still welcome children - not an easy combination to find. Not looking for an organized kid program per se but some place where we would not be treated like second class citizens for chosing to travel with our child. Mega or even large resorts are most definitly not our style. Do any possibilites exsist in Grenada? |
labmom, I've not stayed there myself but I visited it twice last summer whilst on the island--Spice Island Beach Resort would be perfect for you if you don't mind doing an all-inclusive. My husband and I dined there twice for lunch and were welcomed just as graciously as if we were VIP hotel guests. There were quite a few families there during our two lunches and one of the things that struck me was how pleasantly the staff interacted with the children at lunch time. At one table next to us with three children, the waitstaff remember what each of the kids wanted to drink (they make a frozen fruit punch that was very popular), what their family dog's name was back home, that sort of thing. Now it could be that this particular family were repeat visitors--I have no way of knowing. But on our second day back for lunch, I was asked if I wanted another Ting and if I wanted to know about the desserts before ordering my lunch. It could just be that the waitstaff at Spice Island have phenomenal memories and fantastic interpersonal skills.
Aside from that, the beach in front of Spice Island is beautiful, the water is calm, and I would think it to be a perfect location for a 4 year old. I will be returning to Grenada myself in early May, first for a solo week and then joined by friends and family. I'd be happy to answer any more questions for you that I can. |
One possibility: Lance Aux Epines cottages. Nice shallow beach, the possibility of having meals prepared in your cottage. Quite close to the airport and to some good restaurants.
We didn't stay there on our last trip to Grenada (we were at La Sagesse) but wandered by and thought it would be a great place to stay with children. http://www.laecottages.com/ CanadaKate |
The LAE cottages are nicely situated and perfect for a modest budget, but they couldn't even remotely qualify for "high end...beautiful luxury beach accommodations." They're concrete-bunker style with little to no emphasis of aesthetics behind their design.

I'm curious ... did you find somewhere suitable?
