Grenada "Must-Dos"?

We just booked our flights and will be staying at Laluna for 9 nights for our first anniversary in June- can't wait! While this is also a trip for hanging out and relaxing, I always like to have some options lined up for when we're in the mood to explore. We'll be renting a car. What are your favorite things to do in Grenada? Favorite restaurants (both casual and nicer. I'm also looking for something romantic for our anniversary dinner and would love ideas!)?

So far on our list of possible activities, we have Mt. Stanhope, hiking to the waterfalls (possibly with Kennedy Tours? any recs on that?), Grenada Chocolate Company, and maybe a trip to Carriacou (is that worth it?). We are also looking forward to checking out the art galleries and boutiques, although I know there aren't many.

For restaurants to try, I've read that Boots, Beach House, and Aquarium are good, but would love more suggestions.

Thanks for your help!

For casual, inexpensive lunch, have shrimp pizza at La Boulangerie ( best pizza ever!). While you are there, pick up some of their pastries or bread, yummy! Try conch fritters at The Nutmeg. No matter where you go, try the rum punch!

Tour Westerhall rum distillery...bring back some Havana rum ( I know, that's weird, but they distill special rum that is sold in Cuba and Cuban communities in Florida, it's the bomb!).

Since you have a car, you can drive to Concord Falls...there are road signs, but it does take some navigating. We really enjoyed these falls...little bar and shops at the top. You can swim in the pool at the bottom of the falls. Cold!

Spend the day on Mourne Rouge beach, have lunch and drinks at Sur le Mer. Mourne Rouge is much quieter than Grand Anse, frequented by the locals. See how many starfish you can find (and leave there!) on Grand Anse. Play soccer with the local boys on the beach. Buy spice necklaces from the spice ladies. Look for sea glass.

Definitely go to Carriacou. You can just walk off the ferry, grab a local bus and go to Paradise Beach for the day (costs about $3to get there). White sand beach with blue, clear water, starfish...very pretty. The Hardwood Bar is there...great food and cold drinks, inexpensive too. People there are great! Or, once you walk off the ferry, walk to main street, take a right and look for Snagg's place (across from Dollar man). He will pack you a cooler and take you out to Sandy Isle to snorkel and hang out for a couple of hours. Take sunscreen! It's a deserted little island with not much shade, but the best snorkeling! You can also grab a taxi and take an island tour, but that won't take too long!

Fish Friday in Gouyave.

Dinner at Boots cuisine for the best in local fare and old fashioned hospitality

Lunch at Spice Island Beach Resort for the best in luxury setting and a good value.

Spending the day at La Sagesse beach, taking in lunch at their beach bar for some of the best fresh fish on the island.

Driving up the windward coast to see the deserted airport at Pearls, the town of Grenville, and have lunch in Sauteurs.

Lime the day away at Grand Anse or Morne Rouge.

Go to the spice market any day of the week and stock up on fresh spices to take home and fresh produce for your vacation.

Hike to one of the waterfalls. Go swimming in the pool at the base.

Enjoy Grenada for what it is and for everything that it isn't!

Take a tour of Rivers Antoine Rum Distillery. They still make rum the old fashioned way.

My wife and I were in Grenada this past January. This was our second visit to this wonderful island. In addition to the above suggestions I would recommend doing a snorkelling excursion to 'sculpture park'.

Kennedy of Kennedy Tours is a perfect guide around the island. While we have not done the waterfall tour we have done two other tours with him and have enjoyed both.
