First, it's Grand Cayman, not Grand Caymen. Other islands in the chain are Cayman Brac and Little Cayman and please don't refer to any of the islands as just "Cayman".

Second, May is one of the drier months with an average rainfall of about 3.5 inches.

By contrast, October is the wettest month with an average of 8.7 inches of rain. FYI - rain when it does come is mostly in the form of very brief, widely scattered showers lasting minutes rather than hours. It is not unusual for it to sprinkle in one are and be bright and sunny 1/4 mile away.

I've been to Grand Cayman twice, once in March and once in May, both trips were 10 days. March was perfect without as much as a drop of rain. It rained 6 out of 10 days on our May trip. We were however able to escape the clouds and rain by renting a car, and driving to the east end of the island where is was sunny, but still raining over on 7MB.

I do not know what the weather averages are for May, but we obviously just had bad timing. Although we have crossed May off our list for travel months since that trip.... ;-)

Do you remember what time of the month you visited. Early May, late May? Thanks for your reply

I honestly do not remember when in May we were there as it was a few years ago. You can google "monthly average rainfall" for any island, and it will show you the driest months for any island.
According to this website: http://www.holiday-weather.com/grand_cayman/averages/

May looks like it's somewhere in the middle for GC.

You can also research what actual weather conditions were for just about any island (an most locations around the world) for every day during the past 10 years at www.wunderground.com - Enter your intended destination in the Search Box (in your case "Grand Cayman") and press "Enter". On the new page scroll down to the History and Almanac Section. Enter your planned dates of travel then click your way through each calendar year. You'll find charts showing all types of weather data, including daily rainfall amounts (if any) on Grand Cayman during that period.

Keep in mind that what the weather was during any given period "last year" or any year for that matter, does not a guarantee the weather will be "next year".

If you just want to see general weather averages for Grand Cayman (or any other destination) go to www.weatherbase.com - click your way through to the "Caribbean", "Grand Cayman" and the different "towns" around the island chain.
