Cayman island is very laid back and extremely safe. You can walk or drive anywhere and not worry about the locals taking anything or threatening you in any way.

The waters in the Caymans are beautiful. Lots of different shades of blue water.

Can't speak on Cozumel

I've been to both and would vote hands down for Cayman with great diving and beautiful 7MB.

We own a place on Cayman and have been going there for many years. Have also been to Cancun 10 or so times. It depends on the type of vacation you want. You will get much more bang for your buck in Cancun. Good service, beautiful rooms, and a great variety of food at reasonable prices.
But the diving in Cayman is better. Your best bet is to try a condo there, on SMB if you want the long powder white expansion of sand, or elsewhere on the island if you want to actually meet the wonderful Caymanian people. You might also consider Little Cayman or the Brac. Check out www.caymanvacations.com and also caymanvacation.com

Thanks for the responses. I was leaning toward Cayman anyway but now I am sure!

Sue...do you have any condo recommendations?

Meg,
I know most folks like SMB best, but I am partial to the North Side of the island. It all depends on what you want. Since you are diving, try to get a ground floor unit - makes it easier to handle gear. Do check out the sites I mentioned. I have personally only stayed in my folks house and our present condo, so I'm no expert on any other places. Good luck.
