Grand Cayman Taxi Fare

Hi All,

Does anyone have an idea of how much it is to take a taxi for two people from the airport to Seven Mile Beach, specifically the Westin? Just trying to price it out to see if it's better to take a taxi or to rent a car.

Thanks,

I believe it was about $20 dollars U.S. We stayed at the Ritz Carlton, which is just before the Westin, and that's how much I recall it being in December 2008.

If you are thinking of just renting a car for the trip to your hotel, then it's obviously not worth it. However, you'll be happy to have a car for a few days in Grand Cayman even if you don't want to keep it for the entire trip. I generally prefer to have a car at the beginning of a trip so I can stop at the grocery store and buy a few things, do some sightseeing on the island, enjoy some dinners away from the hotel, and then turn it in and relax. But it's not like you couldn't have a car for the entire time. There's a lot to explore on the island. But if you don't want to have the car for your entire stay, then you will end up paying for a taxi to or from the airport. There's simply no way around that.

The actual plan is to take a taxi for our first night and then rent a car for five days. We're staying in SMB for our first night and then we're going to West Bay (Shangri La). I think that this would be the best way to book the trip. The cab fare seems reasonable and I can rent an economy car from Andy's (www.andys.ky) for 182 USD including taxes.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks again, fodorite!

If you are worried about finding your way to West Bay, then a car might be best, but it's really up to you. I'd just pick up the car at the airport and drive.

Sorry, I mis-typed. If you're worried about finding your way, a CAB might be best.

Andy's has a place at the airport too I believe.

I would save yourself the hassle of picking the car up at the airport, it's usually pretty busy with the other passengers. I would take a cab to the hotel and call Andy's the next day and they will be happy to pick you up for your rental. You will save time and get onto the beach and relax after your flight and check in! Have a great time.
