Grand Cayman Hotels

Which would be best-Comfort Suites, Courtyard or Marriott Beach Resort. We are active late 40's, bringing no kids and like the beach and snorkeling. We would like a fridge to save a few bucks. Thanks

For us, a 50's couple, we enjoy Courtyard Marriott - we've stayed there several times. There is a frig in the room. However, you are a bit away from the busy part of 7 Mile Beach so a car would be nice to have to get to the grocery and restaurants. Or you

Sorry, I hit the wrong key. I was going to say you can also use the local bus system which is rather inexpensive and comes along frequently. I'm sure the other two are nice, but we prefer the northern end of 7MB. Enjoy.

We stayed at the Courtyard when it was still the Holiday Inn. We enjoyed it. The beach is across the street, but was no big deal to get to. We went pre-Ivan, so the beach was absolutely fantastic. The best beach we've seen so far. There is a bar, restuarant, restrooms and watersport right there.

The rooms have no balconys. We got a pool access room on the first floor and liked it. There was a frig in the room. At the time we went, HI was all-inclusive and we loved it. I've read on the Grand Cayman web-site, some hotels may start offering a meal plan. Check directly with the hotel or your travel agent.

The bus stop is right out front and was $2.50 p/p to Georgetown. It was not a problem and we used it several times.

We have pics of this hotel and beach on our web-site if interested.

Marriott Beach resort has recently been refubished and is, I would say, a notch above the other two. It is also the only one of the three that is actually on the beach.

Courtyard Marriott is across the street (you have to cross a main road) from the beach, but that stretch of beach is HUGE now post Ivan and Wilma... the deepest I have seen it in over 15 years.

Comfort Suites is next to the Marriott Beach resort and all rooms are (as the name suggests) more spacious than regular hotel rooms and have efficiency style fridge, wet bar, microwave. However, it is not on the beach and you have to walk down an accessway to the beach.

Of course there is another option that meets everything you need, beachfront.. fridge in suite.. great snorkelling... but not on 7MB.. but etiquette precludes me from suggesting it :)

Of the 3, Marriott Beach Resort is nicest. However, we also stayed for a few nights at the Comfort Suites and it was fine (nice rooms, fun "Stingers" bar). We usually stay for over a week and spend a couple of nights on 7MB and then head to the east end, Reef Resort, for a week. (our favorite) We are 40's too, active, and love great snorkeling. The Reef Resort suties are all ocean front with balconies and you can save $ with the fridge & microwave, etc.

Thanks for all the replies..Tom Cayman-we have heard so much about 7 mile beach that we are kind of sold...I am a huge fan of the BF Man...isn't your place his home base?

TomCayman Dec 4th, 2005 07:03 PM

I'd agree with anonxx on the Marriott Beach Resort as the best of the three... and also the recommendation on Stingers bar.

Yes, Barefoot plays every Tuesday and Thursday with us at The Reef...reservations recommended.

Sunshine Suite is the place. So what u have 2 walk 100 yds 2 the beach. The strand is only 1/4 mile away.

I also vote for Marriot Beach Resort - we stayed there in June - it was completely refurbished and just re-opened. Try Coconut Joe's across the street for a great breakfast - reasonable prices!!

How was the beach at the Marriott Beach Resort? Where is it located on 7 mile Beach?

sleeplessknight7 Dec 8th, 2005 06:13 PM

where is the Marriott Beach Resort located on 7 mile beach? Near????

joanie433 Dec 9th, 2005 01:32 PM

It's at the southern end of 7MB.

We were at the Marriott Resort last month on Grand Cayman. I knew the beach in front of the Marriott was going to be narrow, but it was worse than I expected. I would never suggest the Marriott to anyone that has "beach" at the top of their list . Owa

Owa, thanks for the info. It was very helpful
