Grand Cayman Attractions

Can anyone suggest some great attractions to see during our visit? We plan on staying at the Marriott Beach Resort. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Noel,
The main attraction for Grand Cayman is the Stingray Sandbar. It's a must do on the island. You go out by boat and swim with, feed and actually get to touch the stingrays. It's quite an experience!! There are several tour operators on the island that do this, but check out Captain Dexter with Fantasea Tours. You want to go with a small group of people on the boat, rather than a cattle boat, and he offers that. Hope this helps!!
Sandy

I agree with Sandy. We took her advice and booked with Capt Dexter. He was quite good. Don't be fooled by his boat, which looks a bit older. It's a fantastic trip! Dexter is very familiar with the island and can answer anything you ask him. He's a good captain and tour guide. He coaxed even me to hold one of the stingrays while he took my picture. I will never forget that experience!

Lisa
Also the dinner sail cruises are great.

Got back from GCM 2 days ago. Lots of beach erosion. I heard that there is NO BEACH at the Mariott. You may want to contact them and find out. You may be able to negotiate down your rate. Good luck! I've made 5 trips to the island. Some suggestions:

Stingray City and Coral Gardens with Fantasea Tours.

Lots of good snorkeling spots near shore (Eden Rock, Cheeseburger Reef, Right off the Turtle Farm, Cemetary Beach)

Hell is a total tourist trap. Turtle farm is fun to do once. Lots of good dining on the island.

I hear the Queen Elizabeth II Botanical Gardens is nice.

Have fun!

Nick,You say there's lots of beach erosion. Where would you say the BEST beach area is?

Gerri Dec 17th, 2002 03:19 PM

The best beach is at the northern end of 7 Mile.

Sandy Dec 17th, 2002 03:21 PM

The best beach area, IMO, would be from the Westin north. Northern 7MB area is great. It's going south towards the Marriott, where the most beach erosion is.
Sandy
