Grace Bay Club or Point Grace?
 

We have alreadly made resevations at the Grace Bay Club for our 14th annivesary in May. I read somewhere that they were remodeling the hotel. Is Point Grace a better option? How are the rooms, service, beach, food at either of these resorts? I think I could switch, but would it be worth it? We have a beachfront ground level junior suite for $395 a night.

check with Grace Bay Club as the redo as the construction of the new units and amenities is not scheduled until after season. In the meantime they have upgraded the existing property. It is my experience that Anaconda is the best dining Provo has to offer.

Hi,<BR><BR>We are staying at Grace Bay Club in June. I called the hotel re: the renovation and they told me that the rooms were renovated last September. They are building villas next door which start in late summer. So not too worry. Enjoy!

Do a search for my comments on Pt. Grace vs. Grace Bay Club. In my opinion, there is no way GBC compares with Point Grace. Even if they have renovated the rooms, I found the public areas and landscaping not impressive and the pool basic. I agree with previous poster that their restaurant is great though, we just walked down the beach to it from Pt. Grace. Pt. Grace just feels really &quot;special&quot; and I like its location on the beach better than Grace Bay Club. Pt. Grace has the nicest accomodations I have ever seen.

Eileen: With all due respect, how can you say that GBC cannot compare to Point Grace based on landscaping and a pool without ever staying at GBC? I don't think that's a fair assessment.I have read comments by you that your dream is to go to Cap Juluca. If a pool and landscaping are important to you, you will be disappointed in CJ. CJ is all about service, pampering, rooms, a gorgeous beach and a view to die for.

If you read all my comments on this board about Pt. Grace vs. GBC, you will see that I am merely comparing those two properties and that I don't attempt to make any comments about GBC's rooms or service because I didn't experience it. What I do believe though, is that when I saw them, the public areas, pool, location on the beach, landscaping of GBC were mediocre at best. I too went through the Pt. Grace vs. GBC debate and was so very unimpressed with what I saw at GBC. At the time the prices between the two were comparable and I thought you got so much more for your $ at Pt. Grace. Now, perhaps GBC exceeds Pt. Grace in the service area, I haven't claimed to know about that. And given that our room at Pt. Grace was 1,800 sq ft and gloriously appointed, it's hard to imagine GBC's rooms are nicer, but perhaps they are. And yes, a ery important factor to me is a glorious beach, which is one of the main reason's CJ is a dream destination. It also remains a dream destination because I'll never get there until Anguilla has golf. But I stand by my opinion -- given the choice of Pt. Grace and GBC -- both on the same glorious beach -- I feel Pt. Grace wins hands down.

I thought of all the ocean front properties Point Grace is by far the ugliest. Ostentatious to say the least. Also, how did they get away with building five stories? I thought there was a four story height requirement?

I have been to both properties but stayed at neither. (I'm saying this up front because I agree it is not fair to say one is better than the other if I have not stayed at both.)<BR>Ted is right.<BR>Point Grace looks like the first architect left the project and they finished up with someone else.<BR>It does not fit in at all with the low key luxury look of most of the other properties. <BR>It sticks out like a sore thumb from the point on which it's located, and I found its appearance unappealing to say the least.

Eileen, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, and I have read all your comments, but you cannot form an opinion on something you have not experienced or by the way it looks. I hate to use that old addage, but you cannot judge a book by its cover. I stand by my opinion that it is not fair to compare two properties if you have not stayed at both. <BR><BR>Putting that aside, I read your review on wheretostay.com and I see that you are from Philly...me too, actually North Wales, but grew up in Philly. However, it seems that we want different things from our vacations, except a gorgeous beach. Although I'll bet we have the same opinion about Philly cheese steaks! We have the best!<BR>

Hey guys -- since I am currently buried under 2 feet of snow either Grace Bay Club or Point Grace sounds fabulous to me right now! Hey Rez, I am not actually &quot;from&quot; Philly, I am a transplant who has lived in 7 different states. But I am sure our cheesesteaks are the best anyway! Remember all, this board is for people's opinions -- and I have expressed mine. My next trip -- only 33 days away now -- is to the Ritz Carlton in Jamaica and boy, do people have differing opinions about that location. Some people rave about it, some people hate it. Well, I will see, my attitude is -- a week in the warm weather alone with my husband, what's not to like? Haven't been to a Caribbean destination I didn't like -- yet, they all have their individual charms! Anyone lucky enough to get out of this weather is lucky indeed!

We have 30&quot; on our deck! <BR><BR>My travel agent visited the Ritz in Jamaica in November and said the property is beautiful and the service is excellent, which is a give in since it's a Ritz. She said the beach is just ok, but the overall property is fabulous. Don't know if you've ever been to a Ritz, we've been to 3 and the rooms, service, food and amenities are all 5 star. The concierge floors are the best! Enjoy!
