GPS available in Dominican Republic?

Anyone know if there is GPS or something similar available in Santo Domingo, DR?

Are you asking whether you can buy a GPS system there or whether your GPS unit will work there? It should function worldwide. (In fact, if you switch it on during a flight, you'll see that it gives the plane's speed, location and altitude. Can be unnerving if you're a bad flyer, but kind of cool!)

GPS=Global Positioning System.

I once had a LORAN that went out in the Bahamas but I've never heard of a GPS that didn't work.

My wife and I are going to live there for 2-3 months (work related), and we will be driving ourselves around. We would feel more confident with some type of a system that can get us around better in Santo Domingo. My in-laws have some kind of system where they have their home address programmed into the module. At any time they can hit the home button, and it will guide them back to their house.

My father-in-law was looking to see if anything like that would work in the DR, but he ran into dead ends.

karameli - I meant to ask if GPS or similar would work in Santo Domingo.

I read somewhere that the map system for Santo Domingo is inaccurate and electron navigation systems are therefore inaccurate.

Hoping to find someone that knows otherwise.

If no one knows...does anyone know where I might be able to find out?
