PR - Question about Vieques
Hi. I'll be in PR for 3 nights, and I was thinking of making one of those nights a stop in Vieques. I don't want to pay for a flight from San Juan or Fajardo to Vieques, but I am thinking of taking the ferry. Does it make sense to do this?

It definitely makes sense to go to Vieques, although if you are only going for one night I would fly just to maximize the time. It only costs $23 each way from Fajardo or $45+/- from Isla Grande.

I would either do three days in PR or three days in Vieques. You need a car rental to get around Vieques and you can't see much in a day. A taxi to Fajardo to get the ferry will run $60 plus tip. I agree with flying out of Isla Grande in San Juan. Have been to Vieques twice once for 6 and once for 7 days. Not much night life if that's what you want.

Karina123, Going to Vieques makes a lot of sense, and taking the ferry is a great way to get there, however as ccc points out it is not cheap to get to Fajardo from San Juan. Another option would be to rent a car in San Juan and drop it at the El Conquistador Hotel in Fajardo and take a taxi to the ferry. I have done this many times and it is about the same price as a taxi from San Juan to Fajardo. The drive along the coastal road through Pinones and Luquillo is senic and allows for stops at beaches, food stands, and El Yunque rainforest. I would consider flying from Vieques to San Juan to end your trip. This is a fun and senic flight. Bets of luck.

Check with Vieques Air Link for the latest prices, but it's about $75 each way from San Juan International or $45 each way from Isla Grande (the other airport in San Juan).
