You might ask if the Diplomat Restaurant is still open. Was there several years ago and it was "quite" the place. Excellent food, beautiful location overlooking the bay and set in an old mansion. Very romantic.

We've enjoyed both "Normas" and "Julias". Both are a 1/2 hour or so from the center of town. Normas was our favorite. The Sugermill at Halfmoon is also very nice.jjjj

'Hidden' restaurant gems:If you're trampoosing out in the country on the South Coast, try CULLODEN CAFE in Culloden/Whitehouse for lunch/dinner
--a fresh, light nouvelle/gourmet take on Jamaica. It's about an hour from MoBay -- en route to Black River and YS Falls if you go touring which would be a good contrast to Half Moon. TOSCANINI's, at HARMONY HALL, an art gallery near OCHIE/Ocho Rios is also sweet as is DERRICK'S in PORT ANTONIO.

we are going to the ritz carlton rose hall in jamaica next week and though we hear the foood at the ritz is fabulous, we would like to know if there are any other good restaurants within walking distance or a short cab away. we will probably want o eat a couple of fancy meals and a couple of lower key (and lower priced!) ones. thanks karen

KAREN: You're really not in walking territory out at the Ritz so cab it
or hire a driver/guide. Ritz food is great,if pricey, but there's nothing especially Jamaican in feel bout the place, so you'll probably want to contrast the luxe with something unfancy: a jerkstand, a small roadside joint or something out in the country.
See my postings above for some suggestions. If you're in Jamaica in August as well, check out BLOOMFIELD GREAT HOUSE and the orchid
shows up in Mandeville

Hi!
was there last month- There's a little British pub at Half Moon Shopping center and a japanese restaurant- Within walking distance (5 mins) but Ritz shuttles you there no charge. Runs every 1/2 hour. Also a small grocery store there, jewelry shops etc. During the day don't miss the jerk shack at the end of the Ritz on premises beach- Wonderful and fun! Dinner at White Witch is fabulous- Great duck! Views during the day are unforgettable! I'm jealous- Have a great time!!
