Good Hotel Near POS Airport? (Trinidad)

I am going on holiday to Tobago and have to stay one night on Trinidad to catch an early (6am) flight back to the continent. Does anyone know of any good (4-5 star) hotels near the Port of Spain airport? Any that offer a free airport shuttle?

I have booked a "suite" at the Belair International Airport Hotel. It was only $14 more than a regular room. It appears to be the only hotel close to the airport but seems pretty basic. Their website says that they are constructing a 4-star full service building in 2005. Is there anything that's higher end around there???

Check out the website below which makes the Belair sound just awful (certainly not the four star hotel you're looking for). I too am looking for a hotel for one night close to the airport, but I've decided to stay at the Hilton in Port of Spain and not take my chances. I saw some references to a Piarco International Hotel, but every link says "no rooms available". Perhaps this is the hotel that is just being built. I saw reviews for the Hilton from flight crew so I don't imagine that it can be that far from the airpot.

dohn't do it! i was in the same position as you in reverse- flying into POS early am- i grabbed a taxi and went to bel air and it was like being in a film noir motel where they would find the body. i grabbed the driver and took the taxi right back to the airport and changed my plans right then and there (i was ready to go home, i suppose). it was scary and awful.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Seeing as the Bel Air is that bad are there any other hotels which are somewhat close? What is the distance between Port of Spain and the airport? It seems that this has been a major problem for some time for North American travellers to Trinidad/Tobago and seems odd that there are no other options other than a long drive at 4am or the Bel Air.
