Good Food (inexpensive) in Nassau or Paradise Island, Bahamas
My sisters and I are going to Paradise Island at the end of this month for 4 days. We are looking for good, moderately priced places to eat(preferably Bahamian food, places where the locals eat). It doesn't have to be fancy, just great food at good prices. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks. |
My favorite place to eat is the "Poop Deck"
by the Paradise Island bridge - on Nassau side. Good food reasonably priced - by the yacht basin. Have breakfast at Paradise Paradise terrace restaurant - mornings there are georgeous. No problem. Enjoy. |
Try the Casino cafe at the Atlantis Hotel on Paradise Island. The conch fritters are great as are the grouper fingers and not as expensive as other rest.I guess they let you save a little to put in the slots. Breakfast buffett at the Atlantis is good also. lots and lots too eath |
I recently returned from Nassau, and found the best meals at Cafe Johnny Canoe, at the Nassau Beach Hotel, and Dicky Mo's, a dock-looking restaurant just west of the Cable Beach Radisson. The cracked conch at Johnny Canoe was good, as were the blackened grouper and mahi-mahi. At Dicky Mo's, we all had sauteed conch, and you could choose teo side dishes. The peas and rice were very good too.
For an interesting diversion, you may want to try conch pizza at Pizza Hut. Also, the hotel we stayed at, Casuarinas of Cable Beach, has Happy Hour every day from 4-6:30, and you get free conch fritters with each drink. They are tasty and filling. Good luck! |
Good luck on finding any inexpensive food in Nassau or Paradise Island. My husband and I went a few years ago, and wound up at the casinos for cheap drinks and cheese crackers for lunch so we could afford to SPLIT a hamburger at night!!! I sound like I'm probably cheap, but I'm not. We live in Dallas and eat at high end restaurants here, but I've never seen anything like the prices for something as simple as PIZZA there!!!! Maybe things have changed since then. I hope so.

There is a McDonald's near the turn to Paradise Island. We had 2 teenagers and had to turn to fast food sometimes after snorkeling trips. They are far more expensive than back home(first time I ever shelled out $32.00 in a drive thru!) but tastes just like anywhere else. Be aware that they will charge you to cash travelers checks at the supermarkets and most restaurants. I was angry. We brought canned and boxed food with us and cooked most breakfasts, lunches and snacks in our condo. The food at the restaurants is just not that good and it is all expensive. Spend your money on boat/beach excursions instead.
