Golf in the Caribbean
We are trying to pick an island for our honeymoon in March of '00 and being able to golf is one of our prime concerns. Can anyone suggest particular islands or resorts that have good courses for fairly good golfers?

St. Thomas has Mahogany Run which is beautiful and also is easily accessed from St. John. They have a web site
www.st-thomas.com/mahogany/ with all the info you would need. We will be there in November and will play a round or two. Will let you know. It does look challenging.

Mahogany Run in St. Thomas is a fun course. They have three holes (I think they call it the Devil's triangle), where you are hitting the ball over the water a few times.... very tough to get through there without losing a ball (or two). I'd stay on St. John, and travel to St. Thomas. 15 minute ferry ride and about a 15 minute cab ride to the course.

- Jim

The current online edition of Golf Digest ranks the top courses in 100 countries, which include many caribbean islands. You may want to use this as a starting point.
http://www.golfdigest.com/gd9906/planet.c.html
Another resource is PGATour.com which lists the courses played by the senior tour. They play a few tournaments in the caribbean. If they are good enough for the old guys, they're good enough for me.

Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic is a golfers paradise!

The no1 golfing island in the Caribbean is the U.S. Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. The most courses, the most championship courses and some of the prettiest any where. Try Dorado Beach, Palmas del Mar, The Westin and El Conquistador to name a few.
