Golden Lemon Inn?

Our long-trusted travel agent is recommending this inn in St. Kitts for a private, quiet, romantic week in February (my 50th birthday.) Reviews on Foders are mixed. We don't need a lot of nightlife but insist on a clean, pretty beach and water and good food. Thoughts? We don't have long to decide because of airfare deal!

If you choose Golden Lemon you will need a car as it is very isolated. The rooms are lovely, filled with antiques. I enjoyed their lunch and service was good.

The beach at Golden Lemon is not the best on the island.

A website you might find helpful is www.discover-stkitts-nevis-beaches.com

St. Kitts is a beautiful island, with a rainforest, historical fortress, secluded uncroweded beaches, fun beach bars, and friendly locals.

Another property you might enjoy is Ottley's Plantation. It is not located on a beach, but the rooms are amazing.

If you want to be on the beach, you could stay at Timothy Beach Resort which is located on the Caribbean.

We stayed at the Lemon a few years ago for our 25ht anniversary. While I agree the beach is NOT the best, with our deck overlooking the ocean and our private plunge pool, we really didn't worry about the beach - we only used it once. If you book here, be sure to request a villa overlooking the ocean. The rooms in the main house are all unique, furnished quite creatively with hand picked antiques and artowrk. The dining area is outdoors, and adjoins an indoor dining room.

The food here was excellent - it will certainly meet your requirements - and then some. You get to select your evening meal off an a la carte menu which changed daily (soup, salad, main course and dessert nightly!!) - you ordered your breakfast the night before. Lunch was ordered off the commercial menu which was available for people who were not staying at the hotel as well. The wine list that was included in the price was quite good - we splurged for a pay bottle on our last night, though it was unecessary.

You could not ask for better hosts than Arthur and Martin - they join their guests each night for cocktail hour. We were even invited to join them at their table one night for dinner. They have great tales to tell!
Solomon is their driver who meets you at the airport - and takes you on an island tour during your stay. He is a wealth of information! The dinig room staff was so polite and attentive - we had some great conversations.

This is not a hopping place, so if you are looking for nightlife or organized activities you are out of luck. If you are looking for some R&R in a peaceful and creative setting - this is it. If you post your email, I wills can and send you photos. Good luck with your decision!

We stayed at the Golden Lemon a couple of years ago and were not impressed. When we go to a Caribbean resort, the beach is the main attraction for us, and it is not very nice there. A much better choice for what you are looking for is Nisbet Plantation on Nevis. It is quiet, romantic, has excellent service, a very nice beach and great food. Go for the beachfront junior suite if you can swing it. Another possibility is Coral Gardens Resort in Turks and Caicos, an all-suite resort. It has i/m/o the best beach in the Caribbean with flour-soft, blazing white sand and a coral reef with wonderful snorkeling just 5 yards off the beach! The onsite restaurant is outstanding, albeit expensive, and the beach grill is fine for lunch and snacks (full American breakfast is included.) The staff brings you cold towels and sorbet on the beach. It is one of our favorites. Either of these would be a great choice. Enjoy!

There actually may be some construction going on in the area of the Golden Lemon. You might ask your TA to inquire.

A new race track has been built nearby and there are plans to build new villas, golf course, etc.

The Golden Lemon has been for sale for some time now. I wouldn't let that affect your decision.

If the beach is important to you, you may be disappointed in the black sand beach at the Golden Lemon.

I had lunch at the Golden Lemon last time I was in St. Kitts. I would not want to stay there. It was very isolated, and the beach was downright plain. It is not in a good location, there is something very sad about it.

I haven't stayed there, but had lunch there, as well. It was a lovely place, but I agree the beach left something to be desired.

I would stay there if I were looking for a secluded, romantic place. If you are more interested in a lot of activity, then it is not the place.

I stayed at the Golden Lemon about 8 years ago... I know that's quite a while ago, and things could have changed. Just to add my two cents, I was able to stay at this hotel for free through a barter deal. If I had paid to stay, I would have been very disappointed. The service was not great, the food was mediocre and the beach is terrible. Black sand and rocky. It was not my impression of a "tropical paradise." I also found the area to be quite depressing. I did not feel safe walking outside the hotel grounds and I was living in New York City at the time! Like I said, a lot can change in 8 years, but I wouldn't return to this hotel or St. Kitts. I fell in love with St John and have not felt the need to travel to another tropical island since.
