GOING TO ST. THOMAS-NEED HELP!
Hi Everyone. We leave for St. Thomas June 9th and have several questions....we have read all of the earlier posts regarding the Renaissance Grand Beach Resort, but have additional questions regarding the property and the island. First, is their golf on the premises? How far is it to Megan's Bay beach by cab and cost? How far is Sapphire Beach by cab and cost? And what is the best snorkel/boat excursion to take to Tortola/Virgin Gorda? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

No golf on premises. I would take snorkel trips to St. John instead of the BVI. There are a couple good ones that go out of the Renaissance and they go to excellent spots.
Took a wonderful snorkel/boat excursion from St. Thomas. We saw the Baths at Virgin Gorda - beautiful and very interesting & snorkeled at the caves off of...can't remember name of island, but I'm sure someone in-the-know would know where "the caves" for snorkeling are - it was a great snorkeling trip! I'm also at a loss for name of boat we took, but we accessed it from Red Hook in St. T. If you're really interested e-mail me & I'll look it up for you.

Donna: I just got back from St. John/St. Thomas. I stayed at the Renaissance and really enjoyed it. The grounds/property was very nice. The beach was lacking a bit, not as nice as St. John. We spent most of our beach time on St. John, there beaches and snorkeling there can't be beat. My favorite beach: Cinnomon Beach and Francis Bay. Best snorkeling: Lensiter Bay/Waterlemon Cay. St. John is a 15 min. ferry from Red Hook on St. Thomas. Red Hook is 5 min. from the Renaissance. Let me know if you have any more questions. Have fun.
There are several day trips to the BVI's from STT ... limnos, pirate's penny, etc. via powerboat. All stop at the Baths on Virgin Gorda but usually make a second stop for snorkling at the "caves" on Norman Island or Cooper or some other spot. You might want to sail to St. John and do the snorkling there ... New Horizons stops at some of the less visited beaches (out of Sapphire). Please e-mail and I will be happy to forward all the "hints," do's and don't's of STT/STJ.

You may golf at Mahogony Run its only 15 mins away from your hotel next to Magens Bay. Your hotel probaly will have a free shuttle bus to Magens. Sapphire is very close to Renaissance. 5 Mins. away

I recommend that you rent a car or jeep. Just remember to drive on the left. It's fun and you'll save alot of money. You'll enjoy exploring the island and you can't get too lost. The island is only 32 sq. miles! Must sees and do's I had a wonderful snorkel and boat trip with "Stormy Petrel". The Captain was very well informed on the history of the islands and knew the waters like the back of his hand. He took us to The Baths and a few secret snorkeling spots. We also had a great lunch on Cooper Island. I also enjoyed Secret Harbour, and Sapphire for snorkeling from the beach. Great meals??? Room With A View, Request a window seat, the lobster was perfect! We also like Zorbas on Sundays, dine on the patio listening to classical guitar. Great shopping?? Head for St John. My wife loves Bamboula in Mongoose Junction. Jewelry? Great one of a kind at Pierres in STT Palm Passage
