Suze, if I decide to go to Negril and I do not do any AI what are the average prices for dining there? Also are the majority of the hotels in that area nice? I was actually thinking of throwing out a priceline bid to see what I get but unsure about that since I have never been there and I know nothing at all about the location.

Is Negril pretty safe or is it somewhere you do not want to walk up and down the street at night?

KVR, how is Ocho Rios? I haven't heard much about that area.

dining in Negril, here's some prices from my trip this summer:
Sips & Bites 750jmd for delicious steamed fish plate
Shark's 950 for grilled fish & a beer
breakfast LTU pub 10.50usd eggs, bacon, potatoes, cofee
chicken dinner to-go from Alice's 800jmd
lunch at Canoe grilled snapper & red stripe 950jmd
Ivan's, 3 wines & seafood pasta & tip 43usd
Ras Rody's ital/vegetarian 5 dish samples 500jmd

Negril is safe enough, but you need to keep your wits about you. There's "hustlers" so don't get involved w/strangers. As far as the 'street' it's not personal safety so much as the traffic is wild, and the road is narrow, so you need to be careful walking, the main road is small and busy. After dark, I'd use a taxi to get around.
