go or no

Vey curious about Puerto Rico. Has anyone stayed at The Westin Rio Mar or the Paradisus? Would like to know if they are close to the airport and in general if the resorts are worth visiting. I was also wondering if they are adults only or can children go as well. Would be looking at traveling some time towards the end of april how is the weather then. Thanks

The Westin is now a Wyndham. Paradisus is now Gran Melia (no longer an all-inclusive). Neither is very close to the airport, but neither is horribly far either. Both are nice resorts, but I prefer the Wyndham. Neither is adults-only. The weather in April is usually great.

Thank you Doug for your reply. I now see the travel book the travel agent gave me is a 07 and not a 08. Will have to get a updated one. Would you suggest any other island to visit looking for a AI. We have been to Antigua, St.Lucia, Barbados, Jamaica, T&C, St. Barths, St. Maarten, Riviera Maya, Cancun and Punta Cana. Perfer short straight through flight. Thankyou for all your help.

Sounds as if you've been to most of the islands that are most directly reached by nonstops. I love St. Maarten, but there are no all-inclusive hotels there, though there is a very nice new Westin.

Grand Cayman is a favorite of a lot of people on this board, and it's a great island, though has no all-inclusive hotels.

For a short flight, I'd still look at Puerto Rico or St. Thomas if you've never been to either island. Both have lovely beaches and nice resorts, and both are easily reached from the US.

Aruba's a bit longer but has some AIs, as does St. Lucia (the only problem with St. Lucia is that the nonstops go to Hewanorra Airport, which is far from most of the AI resorts ... it's better to change planes in Puerto Rico and go to Vigie Airport near Castries and Rodney Bay).

There are also some nice resorts in the Puerto Plata and La Romana areas of the Dominican Republic. There's also Cozumel. The weather throughout the Caribbean is basically the same, so it doesn't matter where you go.

You'll find many posts about these islands on the Caribbean board, so I'd encourage you to read around and post again if you need more help in narrowing down your choice.
