GETTING TO CAP JULUCA??

What is the best way to get to Anguilla, primarily Cap Juluca? St. Martin then take a ferry? Does the resort provide any transportation from the dock?

Hi Guilda-We fly non stop, use only carry on and catch a cab for Marigot to get the ferry. We consider this part of our trip. The custom area in Blowing Point is very small and there are taxis the minute you exit the building-a short 10 minute ride to Cap Juluca. The hotel does not have a pick up sevice at the ferry. The link ferry use to do a daily pick up at the airport at 2pm-this is very convenient-go to www.news.ai and you can get info on all of the above. The hotel can arrange a private pick up at SXM-it is very expensive $200, so if you are rich and famous you can go that route. I hope this helps.

We're going to Cap Juluca for the first time later in December. We found that we could save some money (which is a funny concept to start with for people who are staying at Cap Juluca) by leaving the night before and staying overnight in Puerto Rico. This worked out for us because my honey loves to gamble, although he doesn't like vacationing at casinos, so the Puerto Rico overnight stop provided us with a nice little vacation within a vacation. We estimate that going the stopover route will get us to Cap Juluca five hours earlier than the direct flight to St. Martin, and saved us almost $800 (for two people), including the price of the hotel room for one night in Puerto Rico. On the way back we fly through Puerto Rico again, but there's very little wait between flights, and we get to leave a couple of hours later than if we flew directly from St. Martin. (Time was very important to us because we're only staying a few days.) In addition to Penny's suggestion of flying direct to St. Martin and then taking the ferry (and Penny definitely knows better, having been to Cap Juluca many times), there are eight minute flights from St. Martin to Anguilla which only add about $100 to each ticket, and might be a nice luxury. I don't know when you're going, but I plan on writing a trip report when I get back, so I can let you know how it goes, if you're interested.

Hi again-Yes. there are small planes, but I am chicken to go in them, the smallest I take is American Eagle to Tortola. Also it depends when your flight gets in to SXM, most people either fly through Puerto Rico or go to SXM and get a ferry. Check out fares and schedules. I just find it works for us as our flight is non stop and no hassel.

Thanks for the responses. Not planning to travel until later next year, but have been watching reports re: Cap's renovations and am watching closely. Have been to St. Martin and couldn't remember if a ferry went to Anguilla. Penny, I'll check out the website you gave me with regard to times the ferry runs. Any updates on Cap's renovations would be appreciated from any Fodorites. <BR>Thanks!
