getting around San Juan

Alas, it has been a tad over 50 yrs since I've been in San Juan so I imagine there have been some changes. I am assuming public bus transport is out of the question. Are there any cab cos to avoid? We have a ten minute span from airport to hotel.
Also, how would you recommend going from cruise ship terminal to ole Morro fort(we have grandkids of 8 and 11 ith us). thanks

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking. Are you asking about transport from the airport to your hotel? If so, that is well regulated. You go to a booth and tell them where you are going. They write out a ticket and give it to one of the airport taxis. Fares are all by zone and you will know how much it is before getting into the taxi.

annelew - I was hoping someone who has done that would respond. My understanding is that there are two cruise ship terminals in San Juan. The main one is walking distance to Old San Juan and El Morro. The secondary one is a little further away I believe. So it's hard to answer your question. You may also want to look into the free trolley that runs through Old San Juan. It may have a stop at the cruise terminal. But you should get more definitive answers from someone who has actual experience going from the terminal.

It's a rather long uphill walk from the cruise ship terminal to El Morro, but it's doable if you have the stamina and time. But there's a free shuttle about a block from the terminal exit. It doesn't stop directly at the terminal. Anyone on the ground can direct you.
