Getting around Grenada
I am planning a trip to Grenada in Oct 2003 and thinking about LaLuna as a place to stay. However, I do not want an all inclusive. How is travelling around the island for meals? Do you need a car or are taxis readily available?

You shouldn't have any trouble getting around by taxi; your hotel will be happy to arrange it. And if you like your taxi driver, he may even "adopt" you and be your regular driver if you tell him when and where to pick you up. There are lots of great restaurants in Grenada, so you'll have fun choosing where to go every night.<BR><BR>Driving is a challenge on Grenada, but don't miss out on seeing the island. If you choose not to rent a car, try to take one of the many excellent van tours available. If you are willing to pay for it, you can have one all to yourself. Check out www.grenadaexplorer for a good list of what's available. Also, if one of them particularly strikes your fancy, you may want to reserve it in advance. On cruise ship days, the tours tend to fill up (though this may be less of a problem in October than in peak season).

Most of the restaurants are in the southern part of the island so that getting to them is not a long distance. This is also the part of the island where driving is easiest if you have a car (St. George's excepted).

My wife and I just returned from our two week vacation in Grenada on March 10th. Generally speaking, you don't really need to take taxis. During the day there are many/frequent local buses (really vans) to take. We stayed at the Blue Horizon and took a bus from Grand Anse to St. Georges a number of times. It costs 1.50EC. At night buses are fewer. However, a number of restaurants offer free pick up and delivery (at least the Beach House and Brown Sugar did). You don't really 'travel around the island' looking for a restaurant. When and if you are out and about, there are restaurants (some are old plantation houses) in various villages. <BR>The last time I was in Grenada our taxi driver scared the pants off me, and I take taxis in New York all the time. He was real nice, but drove extrememly fast and kept changing the tapes he was playing. Can't remember his name.
