Gaudeloupe
We are considering a honeymoon in Gaudeloupe (in January), but my fiance is apprehensive because neither one of us knows anyone that has been there. Any feedback?

Guadeloupe is a wonderful island... with many French-speaking people... This is so far the only trouble you may encounter. Anyway people are helpful and the use of English is spreading out in touristic areas. Please e-mail if you would like more details.

Thanks for the reply! I would love any additional information you could provide. My fiance is particularly interested in how American tourists (especially those who don't speak French) are treated. I have spoken with a few people who did not enjoy Martinique because they found the people unfriendly. What was your experience like in Gaudeloupe?

I was in Gaudeloupe this spring for a day off a cruise ship. We spent the day wandering around town and although I have a little bit of high school french, I didn't need to dust it off. Everyone we encoutered spoke some english, at least enough to to give directions on the street and in the stores, resturants etc they spoke more english.
Even in the spice market (a must see) the farmers were able to speak some english. The spices in the market are very fresh and we brought some back home. Do take the opportunity to see it. |
Guadaloupe is part of France, like Hawaii is part of the U.S. Francs are the currency and French is the language. |
LJ - I understand that . . . what's your point?
