Galley Bay or Jolly Beach Honeymoon?
 

I know that you can't compare the two. I am sold on Galley Bay, but my only reservation is that the beach seams "better" at the JB? The water looks nicer and more calm? Can anyone advise on this. I'm sure I am being nitpicky, but I would hate to not be able to use the beach because of heavy surf? I wish they could move the GB resort ontop of the JB for one week :)<BR>ty

why would you pick Antigua for your honeymoon? It really is not a pretty island. What about Barbados or St Lucia or Grenada? Antigua is a very bland island. Is there a reason why you picked that particular destination?

JB has the nicest beach. I stayed at the JBR for a week back in early July. The rooms are average but the pool and beach are terrific and the Italian restaurant is very good and air conditioned. 2 other sit-down restaurants are average and an average additional buffet. Service is just ok. There are a lot of annoying beach vendors and locals who harrass you and only after many complaints did the facility post some security guards on the beach. This did help. Some water sports included. If you are set on Antigua then go. My friends honeymooned at St. James Club and other friends at Sandals. Did you look into those? <BR><BR>It's your honeymoon but if you haven't looked into any other islands, here are some suggestions. Grand Caymans, St. Martin, Aruba, St. John's (USVI), Puerto Rico, or Cancun. <BR><BR>Been to both Jamica and Bahamas twice(honeymooned in Bahamas). I wouldn't recommend either.

I have never been to Antigua but I do have friends who went there on there honeymoon and had a wonderful time. I do not remember where they stayed. I only know they enjoyed themselves. I am sure wherever your destination leads you are going to have a nice time. After all it is your honeymoon. Congratulations and enjoy.

I honeymooned this past summer in Antigua and had a great time. I stayed at the Allegro Pineapple Beach Resort which is an AI. I visited Galley Bay Resort and had a chance to see a room. It was very nice!! Galley Bay was more upscale to me (not a bad thing at all) like a 4 or 5 star resort should be, right on the beach. If you have the money, go for it. I would pick Galley Bay over Pineapple Beach or Jolly Beach (which I visited). Jolly Beach is huge village resort (much like disneyland). Everything you need is at the resort or nearby. Pineapple Beach is on the beach too and has a tennis court up on the hill, 2 swimming pools, volleyball net & hammocks are right on the beach. I enjoyed my stay at Pineapple Beach, nothing bad to say about it. IF you want luxury & a small, peaceful quiet setting, then I suggest Galley Bay first. IF you want moderate pricing & a peaceful setting then I suggest Pineapple Beach. Jolly Beach ranks third in my opinion, but if a huge resort is what you like then I would rank it second. No matter which you pick, you will have a wonderful honeymoon full of great memories.<BR><BR>Hope this helps.

If you like to party, be sure and go to Shirley Heights on Sunday night for the weekly party. A steel drum band plays in the late afternoon, then a reggae band picks up in the early evening. The whole island comes out!<BR><BR>We loved Antigua. The island has a lot fo character, and even though it might not be the most beautiful island in the Caribbean, it certainly has some unique history and friendly locals.

See luxurylink.com for information on luxury hotels & resorts. This is a good website for general information. I don't know if you get good deals via the auctions. I've heard good things about this website, but personally never tried it.

Stan - I just returned from my &quot;weddingmoon&quot; at Sandals Antigua approximately a month ago. We had the time of our lives! I heard a lot of bad things about Sandals before we went down there (first visit to a Sandals) but we had no complaints when we left. The resort was beautiful with incredible landscaping and the beach was absolutely breathtaking! I think that it is perfect for a honeymoon. The resort is so nice that you don't have to leave to see the island...and aren't you there to be with your new wife anyways?? We left to go into St. John's to go shopping, and that was it. We were just so content with the beach and each other, we didn't have any reason to leave! <BR><BR>If you would perfer not to go the Sandals route, there is also Rex Halcyon which is located next door to Sandals. Dickenson Bay is a great spot, it is like a cove which makes the water very calm - and it is beautiful! If you have any questions, feel free to email me. I have lots of pictures too. I also agree with the other Nancy who suggested a few other island including St. John, USVI.<BR><BR>We loved St. John. Amazing beaches, clean island (no vendors). Lots to do. Great restaurants, shopping and views to die for all over the island.<BR><BR>We also rented a villa which was even more spectacular. Total privacy. <BR><BR>Caneel Bay resort is also lovely if you prefer a resort. Again, I would look at St. John.<BR><BR>Congratulations and best of luck.

Nancy too: I think Stan has made up his mind about Antigua and does'nt seem to want any other suggestions - its his honeymoon so I think you should let him decide.<BR><BR>That said, out of all of the recommendations made, Galley Bay is a great choice...I don't know how you would go about getting a deal though - perhaps call the resort directly. I would not suggest Jolly Beach for a honeymoon - even though it has an awesome beach, it does not have the romantic feel that Galley has...it suits families better. You can always get a day pass to go spend a day there and take advantage of the facilities in that manner.

I'm not sure if you still need an answer to this question or not, but there is no comparison between these 2 resorts. Galley Bay is probably the greatest place I have ever stayed at. We stopped by Jolly Bay one day and were totally unimpressed with the facilities. Galley bay on the otherhand was amazing. The rooms were really nice, the beach was great. The water was probably a little rougher at GB but it was never a problem. We were in the ocean every day. Plus, the food at GB is great. All in all, if money is no object, Galley Bay is the way to go. Feel free to email me with any questions...

My wife and I just went to Palm Island two weeks ago.. Palm Island resort is owned by the same guy (Barrett) as Galley Bay. My wife and I loved Palm Island--very relaxing, peaceful, quiet, and very exclusive because there are only 30-40 rooms at this resort, and there's only 1 resort on the island. The food was magnificent there.. at any rate, we met many people that stayed at Galley Bay and said it was very similar to Palm Island which we loved..

Love the 2 posts above, been to Palm Island and loved it, off to Galley Bay in 10 weeks! Hope it is as good.

I have not been to either but there is a website - travelhop.com - which has detailed descriptions and ipix 360 virtual tours of entire resorts. Take a look and compare for yourself. Gerry and I have been to Galley Bay twice. Most recently in January 2001. Everything about this resort is excellent. We would highly recommed. We are off to Palm Island in two weeks and we are hoping that we like it as much. . .

Galley Bay is a excellent resort, without children! We will go back in April 03 to our lovely Beachfront Deluxe-rooms, just 10 Feet from Beach. We have been to so many resort all over the world, but Galley Bay is one of the best.
