FS Nevis
I just returned from the FS Nevis. My family (wife, 2 children 15 and 18)and I stayed for 6 days. The resort was wonderful. The sevice was outstanding. The food was very good and not as expensive as I thought it would be. I am glad I did not get the meal plan. It does not seem worth the money. Traveling with American/ American Eagle is always unpredictable but we got to Neivs only a few minutes late. If anyone has questions I would be glad to answer them.

George - Glad to hear you had such a nice time! The FS is great resort. I agree with the prices of the food there - it really is not as expensive as one might expect in a resort of this quality.
Marion - I see you are already thinking food! Good for you!

We walked over to Sunshine"s, the Killer Bees were good, but they did not appear as strong as other people have mentioned.I drank 2 without much of a buzz. I did not eat the food there, because I after looking at the place I decided it would be best to stick to the drinking.

Hi George! Thanks for posting - glad you had a great trip.
What did your teenagers do for fun? How did they enjoy the trip? Did they prefer the beach or the pool? Any particular observations from them?
Thanks in advance for any additional info.

I agree with George about the Killer Bees. Tasty, but small and rather expensive. If you're interested in a less expensive rum drink, continue down the beach all the way to the pink hotel and stop at Double Deuce. (Golden Rock also has a beach bar along the way, but we did not stop there.) We ate lunch at both beach bars, and the food (I had fish) was excellent at both.

I echo the positive comments about FS-Nevis based upon 2 visits. But if an adult couple wants "real" relaxation they need to time their trip when children are generally in school for it does attract a large number and them and "children will be children"
On our 2 visits we took the meal plan and while it may have cost $20/day more a couple when you consider the cost of your vacation with air an extra $150/wk. is not a lot to be able to order what you want.
The only down-side is you may eat too much. But, its a vacation with good to very good-not gourmet-food. Hope this helps others considering FS-Nevis.

Just wanted to add that we were there July 2-9, and did not find the resort to be crowded. Many of the guests had young children, but at no time did I feel the place was "overrun" with kids. I have an unusually low tolerance for noise, and I found the resort to be peaceful, much more so than some I've visited.
There are two sections of beach set up with chairs. The section closest to the pools has a trampoline in the water, and the water sports equipment, and this seemed popular with families. The section down near Sunshine's was less crowded, and seemed to draw more couples than families.
Walking away from the resort toward Sunshine's and the other beach bars, we usually had the beach to ourselves.

At to jump in and answer Marion's question about food away from the resort, here's where we ate:
Banana's - great food, reasonable prices.
Hermitage - our particular favorite, best rum punch I've ever had, charming place.
Nisbet - felt a little rushed here, but the food was good.
Montpelier - lovely, good food, beautiful place.
Golden Rock - we felt this was the prettiest of the plantation inns, and had a real down home feeling at dinner.
I had seafood every night, and enjoyed each meal very much.

I flew from Newark via American to San Juan. I then went on American Eagle to St. Kitts. Then I took the FS launch to Nevis. I must say that FS service from the airport was great. A porter picked up the bags off of the belt before we cleared customs. After we cleared customs (merely a wave of the inspectors hand) we did see the bags until we went to the room.
In response to the question about the crowds when I left for home (july 11), I was told that the resort was 40% full.
At breakfast you will see many kids. But if you eat after 8PM, which we did, both the Neve and the Dining Room have few small children. You also do not see small annoying children on the golf course, tennis courts, fitness club or spa.

FS is a VERY family-friendly resort. It has better kids programs than most places in the Caribbean and even does a kids buffet in high season. It has a kids pool, kids club, etc. If you don't want to see kids, don't stay there. FS offers family rates, etc. at most of their properties. This is how they make money.
To anyone who is concerned about kids then go somewhere that is adults only. Everytime I have been there I have seen several kids, not as many as some resorts, but I think you have to expect this. I am not sure why someone who has a low tolerance for noise would go somewhere that is not all-adult.
Kids do not bother me at all. In fact I prefer them to most adults!
Must we all forget we were all kids once too

I probably would choose an adults-only resort, if I were the one choosing the resort! But again, as stated, I found the FS to be extremely peaceful and most of the kids were extremely well behaved. As were most of the adults. ;-)

Those who misinterpreted my comments about children. I had my own and they are on their own and I "love them to death" and my grandson is "priceless" but as stated, FS-Nevis is geared to families as Caneel is now. Fifteen years ago Caneel Bay on St. John stated in their material, "children under 8 or 10 discouraged", now they have a good "kids camp".Affluent "sandwich generation" can afford $800+/day with meals with 2 children.

We do not have kids, but I teach 1-2 grade and have for 15 years. We were in Nevis at the very end of June and the children were not a problem at all!We saw couples at the FS and very few kiddie winks! It amazes me that people would vacation here with little ones...we always went to Mytrle Beach!! Times are a..changin'

Hi Dreamer2:
My kids spent most of the time at the beach. We have a pool at home, so the FS pool did not interest them. They went swimming, kayaking and snorkeling. My wife and daughter went waterskiing. The men who drove the boat were especially nice to my daughter as she was a novice water skier.
