Can anyone give me any advice on flights from miami to the virgin islands. My partner and I are staying in Miami in November and i would like to spend a couple of days on either island
Many Thanks

I was going to ask whether you're talking about the U.S. or British Virgin Islands, but I just saw your post on the U.S. board where you specify USVI.
You can only fly into St. Thomas. I haven't stayed there so I can't advise you on hotels. All I can tell you is that there are plenty of flights to St. Thomas from Miami and lots of hotels to chose from.
There's no airport on St. John. You'd have to fly into St. Thomas and take a ferry to St. John (no longer than 30-minute ride). There are 2 major resorts on that island. The Westin and Caneel. Westin is very family orientated i.e. lots of kids (we've stayed there) and Caneel is much more upscale (the price will reflect that). A lot of people also rent villas in St. John.
If you use the search box and type St. John or St. Thomas, you'll find quite a few posts on those islands, especially on St. John.
Good luck.

You could also fly from Miami, connect in San Juan, and go on to St. Croix, Tortola, or Virgin Gorda from there. (Just in case you want to see the BVI in addition to the USVI. Judging from your user name, you just might want to.)

First of all, I can't believe I just ignored St. Croix!
2nd I think I got thrown off by your post on the U.S. board. When you said either, you meant U.S. or British, right?
All right, I probably need to go take a nap now. ;)
On a serious note, I have not been to the BVIs (only quick fly through Tortola) so can't help you with those islands.
Hi ej.

Nah, don't feel bad, Nadine. Almost everybody ignores St. Croix! ;)

Oh, goodness, please tell me I haven't remembered your name incorrectly. It's been a long day at work and I just now panicked about my previous post. Sorry!

You just made me laugh out loud. Don't worry, you got my name right. I'm the only one whose brain is not quite working today. That's what happens when one wakes up at 3am daily to go to work.
Another embarrassing moment for me: I've been to Peter Island, which is one of the BVIs!!
Jude_uk: Peter Island would be a boat ride (30 minutes) from Tortola. Loved our stay there.
:-)

Oh, thank goodness! I panicked after I sent that message and even did a search on this forum for Nadine, but the earliest post that came up was for 2004 (these searches don't always seem reliable to me!). So then of course I was kicking myself.

you wake up at 3 am daily to go to work? Are you a morning news anchor-type person? Or do you just have a really sadistic employer?

caribtraveler Jun 8th, 2006 12:26 PM

Sadistic? Hmmmmm... No, not at all. LOL.
Im not on air. I'm a producer at a 24-hour cable station. We have shifts and I have the early morning one. Oh joy. I actually don't mind and asked for it. I get to leave early afternoon, unless there's major breaking news of course. :-)

Ahh, I thought it might be TV related. And judging from your Grand Cayman pics, I figured you'd be in front of the camera. :)

caribtraveler Jun 9th, 2006 11:19 AM

Oh Emily..that is just too sweet. Thank you. Well like most, if not all, journalism students, I did at first want to be on camera. Changed my mind during my first internship, decided producing was for me.. probably the controlling side of me. ;)
