Fresh fish and fruit in east end

Hello...Will I be able to easily buy fresh fish from local fishermen instead of the store around the East end of Grand Island of Caymen Isands.? Morritt's Tortuga area. How about fresh fruit? during October Thanks

It's me again.. I also would love to know if there is a place where I can snorkel with my feet firmly planted in the sand as i do not swim!! Don't laugh!! Thanks

hi geo, can you float? even if you don't float in lake water you will probably float in salt water. if you can't or are uncomfortable you might consider ordering one of these:

sorry bout the long url. anyway you can have it on & if/when you feel the need to rest or to tread water while you adjust mask you just puff a small breath into the tube & you float. you can do this before you even get into the water - it is not cumbersome to wear at all.
i think you could find some stand up snorkeling at The Reef resort next door to morrit's or possibly off the east side of rum point beach. i don't know what it's like in front of morrits.

no fishermen near morritt's. i think fish may need to come from the georgetown grocery. there is some fish available at the weekly farmers market. you must be there way early - like 7-8am. we did not buy there, as they only had reef fish that day & we don't eat those.
you should find fresh vegeys in the small grocery at the minimall across from the reef resort. again things are available at the farmers market < morrits will give directions but it is most of the way back to georgetown & selection is not great. we did get some very tasty tomatoes.

i'm assuming you know that standing on any coral is Not ok. your flippers can damage or kill it.

have a wonderful time.

Check with Capt. Herman who is the house charter boat for Morritts regarding fresh fish. He also has a fish fry by the East End Texaco (plus one soon to open near High Rock) and can probably hook you up. There is a weekend road side veggie and fruit stand out front of one of the homes in Breakers, as well as one in front of Woods, Chester's or Everglo (I forget which one)in Pease Bay/Bodden Town.

Thanks Virginia, This vest was probably my answer, but it would not arrive in time of my vacation unfortunately. I'll be okay.. my hubby is an oceanographer and says you are so right about the coral. Thanks for your help!

Recently made a trip to Grand Cayman approximately 2 weeks ago. I want to thank all of you who answered my questions. Morritt's Grand is GREAT if you want peace & quiet and shallow water. You can see down to the sand below you and will have friendly fish that swim around you. We saw stingrays and large fish swim around the outdoor cafe. Fun! Stingray City is easy and waist high water even way out there....Sting Rays come right up to you and is one of the best things I have ever done. Worth every penny!I will say that Captain Herman will be opening a Fish Fry very close to the Morritt's Grand and Tortuga Resort on the East End of the island. Praying that the Hurricaine spares this wonderful place.
