I have been to both and it depends what you are looking for. If you are looking for a Vegas type casino (which I wasn't) then the Crystal Palace is probably the one. It's on the beach, although only about a 20 ft strip of beach. I hated the corney "show" and there is not much else. I think the Marriot Resort is next door (new since I've been there) but a friend took her family there and enjoyed it. This is in Cable beach, a long taxi from Paradise Island where the Atlantis is.(I loved the beach by the Shereton in Paradise Island)Although there is a good amount of historical sites in Nassau, and a lot of water activities on the beaches, you would have to taxi from Cable Beach also. Cable Beach may be more built up and with more to do than when I was there, but I was bored! Also, the snorkling wasn't that good, they took us to the middle of a boating lane with merky, kicked up waters, poor visibility, and not much to see. There may be better tours.

I have been to Freeport twice and had a great time! I have heard great things about Our Lucaya, and I will probably stay there next time I go to Freeport!! It's a little secluded but everything in Freeport is so close you could taxi, bus, drive, or ride a scooter wherever you want to go. The resort seems to have it all, and I hear is more family oriented than Spring Break oriented. If you go into Port Lucaya, they have a great plaza of shops, restaurants, and nightly entertainment-- a very good time. While there, check out the snorlkling from the peer (I THINK it's called Lucaya Adventures, but it's right on the water at the plaza). They take you to a wonderful lagoon and was the best snorkling I've ever done!

As you can see I'm voting for Freeport, not just because of the resort, but the area. If you go, check out the International Bazaar, the gardens and the water activities on the beach. You may run into Spring breakers in town and at the beaches at Port Lucaya, but here is a secret a local told us about:

About a 45-60 min drive east is one of the most secluded and beautiful beaches in the world, Gold Rock Beach (movies are filmed here for it's beauty). Park in the lot across the street at the Indian Caves (another cool place to check out) and follow the boardwalk and paths to the beach. Go early in the day, as the tide takes over the entire beach at high tide. There are very few people there and it's breathtaking. Bring your camera!

Anytime in the Bahamas is a good time, but be careful of hurricane season (although they are unlikely). I think Feb would be a great time and before the Spring Break crowd, but you will pay more. Cheaper in the summer/early fall (hurricane season).

Let me know where you chose to go, and then please email me after your trip with how you liked it (whichever you chose). You'll have fun no matter where you go!
